HER CINDERELLA COMPLEX
Don’t you just love the title? I’m a sucker for a great title…especially one with Cinderella or Beauty or anything fairytale like, really. Those stories never get old, especially since so many writers update them all the time!
When Fatin emailed to invite me to blog, I wasn’t sure what I’d say. This year I have two small press books out, so I decided to pick the one I thought she would like best – Her Cinderella Complex from Samhain. It’s a classic romance, spiced up a bit. I worked in all my favorite story elements – the enigmatic boss, the spunky secretary, a private island, a glamorous wedding, and a deep dark secret the hero has to uncover for himself. In other words, all the things I read a romance for!
The characters came easily, especially the earnest heroine, whose heart of gold makes me smile each time I read it. I think it is important to create heroines I’d want to have over for coffee, and heroes I’d set my friends up with.
I am sure everyone writes for a different reason, but for me it’s always been about creating a book I would want to read, something I’d stash on my keeper shelf and go back to year after year. Hopefully, Her Cinderella Complex can be that for more people than just me!
Comment and let me know what your favorite things to read in a romance novel are. Fatin will put the names in the proverbial hat, and someone will win a copy of Her Cinderella Complex! To keep up on what I am doing, check out my website or blog. Thanks!
Hi Jenna!
Congratulations on the new books this year. I do like a romance with a spin on the classic fairy tales. I enjoy the small gestures that the characters in a romance make that show me that they are paying attention to the other person and know and love them for who they are.
Hi, Jenna! First, what a gorgeous, eye-catching cover! I’m a sucker for a lovely bride and groom in a tux 🙂
My favorite things to read are the romances with heroes and heroines who have strength of character and yet find that they are even better together. It’s exciting to see their relationship develop (especially if they didn’t initially get along). And I agree with Maureen, that I love reading about the intensity of that new relationship, where the other is such a focus that the other things around them drop away.
Congrats on your latest releases! Sounds like a bit of a real-life fairytale in the best possible way! 🙂
I adore fairytales too! I think they never get old because they touch a nerve and it just zings a little differently every time 🙂
I have to admit I love a bit of angst and drama in a romance 😀 Passion and pride and all that good stuff that makes it :::almost::: impossible for the characters to be together… but they figure out how to make it work because it’s their destiny 🙂
I love a stunning and evocative location too. Location will often draw me to pick up a book because I anticipate a mental “vacation” in the locale.
BTW, I totally agree with writing what you want to read. That’s what got me started making up stories (fairytales, of course) in the first place.
Congrats on the new releases!
Jen
Love the cover! I enjoy watching a relationship develop during the course of the story. It doesn’t hurt to have a spunky heroine and a to die for hero either.
I am a sucker for a fairy tale type story. I love seeing different authors takes on the different fairy tales. Everybody has their own version and it is so cool to see what people will come up with. Lovely cover for your book.
Hi Jenna,
Love the title and cover of your book.
I love the punch of knowing there will be a “happily ever after.” I do read other genres but will always come back to romance when I want to feel better.
I doesn’t matter if it is a paranormal, contemporary or romantic suspense if I know that the author will some how find a way for the characters to work through their angst, I’m happy.
The cover is a dream, isn’t it 🙂 I got to be part of the process, which was lots of fun. With Mills & Boon, you really only have veto status, and some publishers make the decision regardless of the author’s opinion. Here, it felt like I was in control…which could have been a skill of the cover artist 🙂
Congrats on the new release! What my favorite things to read in a romance novel is the happy endings and how the hero/heroine meets the one. kind of like a fairy tale.
Congratulations on this lovely book. It looks entrancing and captivating. Favorite things in a romance novel involve the interrelationships within the major characters and their goals as well as their trials and tribulations. When there is a locale involved I enjoy reading about this in depth.
Hi Jenna,
That is a great cover and I love the title. My favorite thing to read in a romance novel is the HEA.
Hi Jenna,
DITTO – Fabulous cover
I’m also a sucker for Cinderella stories, as anyone can tell from Girl of My Dreams, my sweet romantic comedy
So, I have to say my favorite in a romance is the makeover. Plain Jane turns exceedingly gorgeous! I never get tired of that one. It’s that Cinderella thing.

Hi Jenna!
I love the cover too. My favorite romances are fairy tales and I love to read about the struggle towards the happy ending. And I like the ending to be more than a few words…
