Kera Watson never expected to face death behind a Los Angeles coffee shop. Not after surviving two tours lugging an M16 around the Middle East. If it wasn’t for her hot Viking customer showing up too late to help, nobody would even see her die.

In uncountable years of service to the Allfather Odin, Ludvig “Vig” Rundstrom has never seen anyone kick ass with quite as much style as Kera. He knows one way to save her life—but she might not like it. Signing up with the Crows will get Kera a new set of battle buddies: cackling, gossiping, squabbling, party-hearty women. With wings. So not the Marines.

But Vig can’t give up on someone as special as Kera. With a storm of oh-crap magic speeding straight for L.A., survival will depend on combining their strengths: Kera’s discipline, Vig’s loyalty… and the Crows’ sheer love of battle. Boy, are they in trouble.

We’re all meant to root for heroines in books. The female who brandishes her wits like a sword to cut down her foes, whose beauty is more than skin deep, and who can seduce the hero while saving herself, thank you very much.

But what about the other females in the book? Even secondary characters, even those with roots in mythology, can have very real feelings. For instance, in Goddess Awakened, another goddess guards the gates of Tartarus, which is located just outside Hades proper. She’s one of the three Harpies, also called the Erinye. Her name is Tisiphone. Terrible to look upon, and even more terrible to smell, lol,

Tisiphone must make sure no one escapes the outer boundaries of Hell. It’s a lonely and tedious job patrolling the gate of Hell, but someone has to do it. Still, a girl has feelings. She likes to be invited out once in awhile, or at least keep up with the gossip from the outside world. Or world above, as the case may be. So when the hero, Eric, is kidnapped and trapped in Tartarus, and runs into Tisiphone at the gate, he unwittingly hurts her feelings by filling her in on the latest news: there’s a war between demons and fae in his hometown. As usual, no one thought to tell Tisiphone.

Eric, being a veterinarian, recognizes Tisiphone has a skin problem. Nice guy that he is, he offers to provide her with some creams and ointments. Did I mention Tisiphone has the head of a dog? Yep. A mangy one!

So if she happens to let the gate slip so Eric can slip through, well… who can blame her? Every goddess needs a little love.

The research for this novel led me deeper and deeper into mythology. I loved learning about the Goddess Iris – messenger to the gods, and also Goddess of the Rainbow, the bridge between the worlds.

Goddess, Awakened, is the first book in The Goddess Connection series, which says: Every woman should embrace her inner goddess. What’s your connection?

I have several more novels in this series in mind to follow. In each, the heroine will be somehow connected to a goddess. Her lifelong quirks will become strengths once she finds her true place in the world, and accepts herself for who she really is.

Something we should all do! Every woman should be treated like a goddess, don’t you think? 😉

With a little help from a goddess, battling evil is a piece of cake for Jocelyn Gibson.

A descendant of the goddess Iris, Jocelyn Gibson may have forgotten about the realm of magic, but it hasn’t forgotten her. When Eric Hendricks is targeted by a demon, Joss must step in to battle the evil and save the town’s awkward, but endearing, vet…who also happens to be the man she loves.

Joss’s new inn, a culinary career specializing in cooking with lavender and a new love all make for a fine recipe of disaster. She needs to embrace her inner goddess and harness the powers she never knew she had before it’s too late.

Mini excerpt for GODDESS, AWAKENED:

In starting her life over, Joss had expected some resistance, even some trouble, but not this. The bedroom floor boards trembled beneath her golden-slippered feet. Tendrils of an unseen power curled upward from deep within the ground, tingling through her toes. She paused to steady herself, then continued to put the finishing touches on her costume. The tremors grew into rumbles and their hum seeped beneath her skin. When their tiny wisps twined through her mind, she clenched her hands. Enough. Go away.

Thick as starlight on a clear summer’s eve, sweet as the lavender blossoms she had yet to plant, energy whooshed up through the cracks of the worn wood and out into the October night.

She gripped the bureau until it passed, the vibrations rolling over her in lessening waves. Bubbly, effervescent waves. “Third time tonight, Taz.” Each departure took longer, and more of the essence remained.

When the dog whined, she stroked his fur. “Don’t worry, it won’t hurt you.”

Even if tonight the waves were palpable enough to make her hairs stand on end. Oh, no, please.

Nothing could ruin tonight. More than a party, this event would determine her future. And after three years of grief, she’d never allow anything to trap her in its clutches again.

MoonShineWhen the past hurts, it bites.

Meet Evan Stone. Laid-back, in-control Alpha of the Takhini Wolves. Life’s not perfect, but he’s got a good handle on his world. At least, he did—until the night he ends up in jail, soaking wet and wondering what the hell just happened.

The “what” is Amy Ryba, a vengeful female who’s decided it’s long past time to make Evan pay for his sins. Amy has spent years tracking him down, and the last nine months working in secret to destroy him. She’s ready for anything—except discovering the shifter she hates is her mate.

Suddenly, Evan’s not so very in control, of himself or his pack. And unless Amy can learn to forgive and forget, she’ll have to do the unthinkable: reject her mate.

With two packs watching, one thing is certain. Their personal issues won’t stay personal for long. If Amy and Evan can’t find a way to work together, there won’t a happily-ever-after for them…or any of the wolves of Whitehorse.

Warning: Contains angsty wolves. Lots of angsty wolves causing explosions of all sorts, playing bad pranks, hacking computers, and having angry sex against a wall or two. Not all at the same time, though, because that would be silly.

It’s been a long time coming, this happily ever after.

Back when I first wrote Wolf Signs, the story sprouted from a single idea, growing into the adventures of a couple of wolf shifters and their search to be happy together. The next story in the Granite Lake Wolves series followed logically because there was a side character in book one who had stolen my heart, and I needed to make him happy as well.

One after another the people who had populated the pages came to life for me as an author, but what I had started with the Granite Lake Wolves was a linked series of connected people. Each book stands on its own, and there’s not a lot of overlap other than the family and friends that stop in at different moments.

At the same time I started my writing journey I met a wonderful couple of writers who were creating worlds that pulled me in completely, mind and soul. Bree and Donna together write as Moira Rogers, and their Red Rock Pass novellas began about six months before my series did.

But they also had the most amazing other world. Southern Arcana — a place populated with more than just shifters. A place where even as one couple found happiness with each other, the politics and turmoil of the world continued around them.

I had read fantasy, and science fiction for years before I found romance, and long before I became an author. Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series, David Eddings amazing Belgariad. There were many more that I had enjoyed, but for some reason I think it was the deliberate inclusion of a romance story that set Southern Arcana apart from me.

Their work inspired me to try it myself. I would travel to a new section of my world where not only would the hero and heroine find each other, they would deal with outside circumstances that carried from book to book until coming to a finite conclusion.

Four books. An over arcing story that required I drop tiny hints into each book. For a person who does not plan out every detail of every story, it was a frightening and yet invigorating idea. Could I do it? Or maybe the question was, could I do it in a way that I wouldn’t go crazy, or lose track of what I was trying to accomplish.

In book one, Black Gold, we met the major players, and another thing occurred that I hadn’t intended but that turned out to be perfect for these stories. Not only did I write the point of view of the hero and heroine, but Evan Stone, Alpha of the Takhini pack, made himself known. Since the first book we’ve gotten glimpses into his mind. What he’s been trying to accomplish. What’s in his heart…

Now it’s his turn, and all the secrets that have been hinted at are about to come into the light. There are no more bear issues, just Evan and his missing mate…

And everything else that’s been building to this point.

As the conclusion of the Takhini Wolves comes about, I find myself looking back to see if I accomplished what I had hoped for. It’s not as broad a world as Southern Arcana, or as long running as other paranormal series, but I’m happy. In the end I feel as if Evan has taken a long journey, and he’s finally with the exactly right woman who challenges him to be everything he needs to be. For the pack, for her…

For himself.

I can’t leave completely. I’ve started a new series to gather the continuing stories for other characters. The Takhini Shifter Novellas will be a place for you to come together with them and catch up, and hopefully continue to fall in love.

But first, take a ride with Evan and Amy. Hold on tight—it’ll be worth it.

About the Author:

Vivian Arend in one word: Adventurous. In a sentence: Willing to try just about anything once. That wide-eyed attitude has taken her around North America, through parts of Europe, and into Central and South America, often with no running water.

Her optimistic outlook also meant that when challenged to write a book, she gave it a shot, and discovered creating worlds to play in was nearly as addictive as traveling the real one.  Now a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of both contemporary and paranormal stories, Vivian continues to explore, write and otherwise keep herself well entertained.

New G.A. Aiken book coming out December 2, 2014!

The trouble with humans is that they’re far too sensitive. You forget you put a woman in the local jail for a few months—and she takes it so personally! And yet she is the one trying to assassinate my queen. And now I’m trapped with Elina Shestakova of the Black Bear Riders of the Midnight…gods! That endless name!

But what am I to do? I am Celyn the Charming with direct orders from my queen to protect this unforgiving female.

Even more shocking, this unforgiving female is completely unimpressed by me. How is that even possible? But I know what I want and, for the moment, I want her. But I’m sure that she, like all females, will learn to adore me. How could she not when I am just so damn charming?

Copper King

Takhini Shifters 1

Vivian Arend

Timeline: February prior to the start of Black Gold: Takhini Wolves 1, this stand alone novella introduces a couple later featured in the Rita-nominated SILVER MINE: Takhini Wolves 3

I’m such a fan of Vivian Arends shifters–her Takhini Wolves are the best!

But one of my very favorite stories by her is Tangled Tinsel, a Christmas short (http://www.amazon.com/Tangled-Tinsel-Vivian-Arend-ebook/dp/B004CJ813I/ref=sr_1_46?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1398823337&sr=1-46&keywords=vivian+arend ) that is full of fun & just a great little read!

I tell you that because this story, Copper King, is very much in the same spirit. Casino owner Grizzly shifter Jim Halcyon is all about having a good time with life—and women are pretty much the top of that pleasure list. Jim’s a love and leave them kind of guy—but leave them smiling!

Ready to embark on a new adventure with his closest friend—a crazy, fun adventure to win the coin Lady Luck—Jim’s bestie decides he needs a woman to help him cheer up. Only the woman he’s targeted for Jim isn’t the one Jim zeros in on—she’s the stunning woman across the room who looks like she’s trying to shrink into her clothes to hide. Yeah, right as she HITS THE JACKPOT!!

Lillie has come to Las Vegas for one last fling—she doesn’t want to draw attention to herself, but she wants to have a blast…and maybe a fling! And when she sees the sexy Jim closing in on her she’s sunk. He’s a hunk of grizzly she just can’t pass up!

Jim and Lillie find themselves having such a great time, and enjoying each other so much…yet they both see the deadline of their fling looming. Jim on his Lady Luck adventure, and Lillie to meet obligations she can’t escape…or can she?

LOVED it! Such a fun read. Short but full of sexiness, and shifter possessiveness & just yummy goodness!! Rich, shifter, possessive, hot…Yup, Vivian Arend hits every high point in this novella!!

I want MORE!! NOW!!

But as danger approaches, he learns that underestimating the sexy little wolf is a big mistake.

Hi! Thanks so much for stopping by! I’m here to do some fun trivia with my hero and heroine from my novella HIS CHOICE which can be found in the EVER AFTER anthology. We’re going to do a couple serious questions, then get to the cute and fun ones.

Carrie Ann: What series is your novella set in?

Fawkes: The Dante’s Circle series but you don’t have to read the other books first.

Leslie: Though there are characters from the other books in there too for those who have read it.

Carrie Ann: What is your novella about?

Fawkes: I needed to make a choice: Follow the steps of my father, Lucifer and take souls, or slowly die because I couldn’t feed.

Leslie: He made his choice and I got to finally find a mate that loved me for me.

Carrie Ann: Aww. I love you two. Okay, heat factor. Hot or Not?

Fawkes: Always hot. I’m a demon.

Leslie: *blushes. Yes. Totally hot.

Carrie Ann: Now the fun questions. Chocolate or vanilla?

Leslie: Chocolate.

Fawkes: Oh yeah. There’s nothing vanilla about us.

Carrie Ann: Leather or Lace?

Fawkes: I wear leather in battle, but I love Leslie in lace.

Leslie: I could try on some leather chaps if you want. *blinks innocently*

Fawkes: *coughs* Is this interview done yet?

Carrie Ann: LOL On that note, yes. You go off and find your uh…leather. *blushes* Thank you for coming!

When another author suggested she use the voices in her head for good and not evil, The Redwood Pack and all her other stories were born.

An Interview with Hunter

Hi everyone! Sometimes I just like to sit down with one or two of my characters and interview them. I spend months writing their story and when it’s time for the book to be out on shelves, it’s nice to come back to them to see how things are doing. Today I’m sitting down with Hunter, the heroine of An Unlucky Moon.

Carrie Ann: Hi darling! I’m so glad we had time to sit down.

Hunter: *leans down and kisses her cheek* Thanks for having me.

Carrie Ann: *blushes* Uh, what were we doing?

Hunter: *grins* We were going to sit down for an interview.

Carrie Ann: *clears throat* Oh yeah. So, tell me about life before you met Becca.

Hunter: Empty.

Carrie Ann: Oh honey. I’m sorry.

Hunter: I’m filled now. I lived for years in hell, killing demons for sport because my Pack betrayed me. Now that I have Becca, I’m better.

Carrie Ann: Thank God. Okay, tell me more about Becca.

Hunter: Mine.

Carrie Ann: You’re really good at those one word answers you know. How about you elaborate though so readers won’t think you’re some Neanderthal.

Hunter: I’m a wolf. That should answer all.

Carrie Ann: Hunter…

Hunter: She is perfect. She’s my mate. She’s my reason for living, yet so much more. I love the way she smiles, the way she laughs. The way she fights. I love her curves and the fact she’s not one to cower to anyone. I love the way she fits into my Pack and how she knows every single person, even down to the infants and cares for them all. I love that she’s still immersed within her inner circle of six friends and calls them her family. I love the fact that her best friend is a dragon who can kill anyone who looks at her wrong if I’m not there. I love the way she makes me a better person because I would do anything for her. Anything.

Carrie Ann: *blinks*

Hunter: Better?

Carrie Ann: *swallows hard and wipes away a tear* Yes, honey. I love you. Just saying. Okay, a fun question. Chocolate or vanilla?

Hunter: I’m not vanilla.

Carrie Ann: *giggles* You know that’s almost exactly what Becca said. Thank you so much for sitting with me. And readers? You should totally read their book if you want to know more about Hunter. Just saying. *wink*

An Unlucky Moon Excerpt

Hunter frowned. “I know I will have to court her. I plan to ask you and your mates for help.”

Balin blinked, his hand on the door. “You’re going to ask for help? I thought you were an Alpha wolf.”

“I’m the Beta of my Pack, but I’m a dominant. That doesn’t mean I don’t know how to ask for help when it’s necessary. Becca isn’t of my Pack, and I want her to remain safe. Bringing her into my Pack right now would be dangerous without all the facts, and I don’t plan on forcing her to be with me.”

Balin snorted then opened the door, leading them into the bar. “You’re saying all the right things, but I have a feeling you’ll act all wolf and think she should bend for you.”

Hunter clenched his fists. “I’m not as enlightened as some. Fate made her for me, and the course has been set. I will not break from that.”

The sweet scent of mate and woman filled his nose, and he turned to see the goddess of his dreams. She’d put her curly red hair in a tangle on the top of her head so little ringlets fell down her neck. Those pieces seemed to beg for his touch, and he had to remember not to reach out to her just yet. Her long neck would be perfect for his tongue, as would her ample breasts. There were more than a handful, and he wanted to know the color of her nipples.

Can you hear the dragon’s roar?

Over a thousand years ago Draakar was forced to leave Earth, now he has no choice but to return. The dragon lord, whose world teeters on the brink of destruction, must find his truemate. The one woman with the power and love fated to save them all. The woman he left behind.

Maya Trent was abandoned on Earth, apparently human but so much more and unaware of her dual heritage. Once Draakar awakens her dragon within all she wants to do is kill him. Yet they must work together to save mankind as well as the brethren. But first Draakar has to convince her that the truemate bond between them is real, as is his love for her. She just has to believe in him.

No insect, animal or bird sounds were ever heard in the center of the stones because all knew better than to venture into the circle of power. Even the wind only danced around its edge. Just before dawn, something changed. For miles around the stones not a creature stirred. They sensed something coming and were careful to give the area an even wider berth than usual. Only heavy fog moved across the mountains as a dragon lord from a time long gone glided slowly through the gateway and landed squarely in the center of the Stones.

Black talons dug into the rich soil and the humming sound emanating from the Stones changed to a fevered pitch, far beyond human hearing. (more…)

This summer two exciting new shifter books in bestselling series hit the shelves. SHATTERED EMOTIONS, Book 5 in the Redwood Pack series & DIAMOND DUST, book 3 in the Takhini Wolves.

Carrie Ann Ryan and Vivian Arend have joined forces to bring you a few tidbits from their books. Take a minute, and we hope you enjoy!

The theme for this post?

First Kisses

Viv Arend: Let’s talk about 1st kisses. Not ours…our characters!

Carrie Ann Ryan: Let’s see. I was 13. The guy had braces… Oh.

Viv Arend: lol! Oh man, kissing with braces, THAT was fun.

Carrie Ann Ryan: In an “OMG that hurts” sort of way.

Viv Arend: Especially when you BOTH have them! Good thing our shifters don’t wear braces. What’s your favourite kind of 1st kiss for your characters?

Carrie Ann Ryan: For these two characters I wanted soft. They NEEDED soft. Usually I like them hard and against a wall without taking a breath, but Mad and Ellie needed soothing first.

Viv Arend: Yes, they totally did. That kiss was perfect for them! I find my characters always do the opposite of what I think they’re going to do. Like out of the blue that ‘about to consume you’ turns into the gentlest caress. Hmmmmm. 😀

Carrie Ann Ryan: I agree. At first I didn’t know if Maddox or Ellie would ever move on from softness. Boy was I wrong. *blushes*

Viv Arend:  Heheh. Blushing is good. I was surprised by Caroline and Tyler in that Tyler ended up being far more gentle then he seemed at the start. Love surprises like that

Carrie Ann Ryan: Oh yes! Though that Tyler. *whew* I loved how he turned out.

Viv Arend: …and Caroline loved how he turned out as well, so it’s all good! On to the kisses?

Carrie Ann Ryan: ‪Oh yeah.

Shattered Emotions

He was done talking, done with words and all that they meant. He needed to taste her, to feel her in his arms.

He ran a hand through her hair, loving the soft feel in his hands. She leaned forward but didn’t say anything, didn’t breath. Maddox moved closer, letting his lips barely brush hers, the soft feel almost his undoing. He moved his head side to side so their lips gently touched each other’s then pressed harder, loving the way she melted against him, her mouth parting ever so slightly.

He let his tongue barely trace her lips, teasing, testing, then opened her mouth farther, blending her moan with his own. He knew she needed softness, and he’d be the one to give it to her—even if it hurt to hold back.

Her mouth parted wider, and his tongue tangled with hers, their kiss deepening, their breath quickening. He pulled back, nibbling on her lips, moving his mouth along her chin to her ear. She turned her head to the side so he could nibble down her neck to the place where he’d mark her when they were ready.

He traced his lips back through his trail until he met her mouth, kissing her softly, wordlessly.

His wolf howled in pleasure, and he pulled back, cupping her face so he could look her in the eyes.

“Slowly,” he whispered, his voice shaky.

“Slowly,” she agreed, her lips partially swollen from his kisses.

Hell, slowly would kill him, but he needed to give her a chance to back out—something that would also kill him.

A promise meant nothing without the threat to break it up on its trail, and he wouldn’t let her hurt for him. They’d find a way to make it work.

They had to.

Diamond Dust

She turned in the doorway. “There we go. Safely home. Thanks for the lovely evening, and we’ll be in—”

He twisted her to the side and pinned her to the wall. Frustration, hunger—it all came together in one moment of need that had to be answered.

“Maybe it’s the fact you can take care of yourself that makes you so damn attractive.”

He wrapped one hand around the back of her head, the other at her hip as he kept her completely under his control. He caught her with her mouth open as he kissed her. A rush of excitement roared through him at her taste, and his bear finally settled in satisfaction.

She hesitated, and he wondered if his balls were in danger, then she thrust her fingers into his hair and dove wholeheartedly into the kiss. Tongues tangling, bodies pressed tightly together. She wrapped a leg around his thigh, opening her body to him. He used both hands to lift her, lining up their mouths better while easing his erection between her thighs.

Caroline groaned as his lips left hers, kissing his way along her jaw to her neck. The sound fluttered as he took hold of her earlobe and sucked lightly.

“How hard did I hit my damn head this morning?” Her muttered complaint was negated by the fisted grasp she maintained on his hair, holding him to her throat. She was nearly purring with satisfaction as he tasted her skin.

He licked, once, and her full-body shiver made the hair on his arms stand on end with the desire to take more.

To hell with restraint, he wanted to take it all.
