When Cade Walker and Merrick Sullivan find Elle hiding in the cabinet of a gun store, they know they can’t just walk away from the fragile woman with no memory of who she is or who tried to kill her. Merrick is training for the title shot in the heavyweight division as a mixed martial artist and can’t afford distractions, but neither can he turn his back on the woman who tugs at his heartstrings.

Elle feels safe with her two protectors, and the longer she spends with them, the more she realizes that she has no desire to remember her past. Not when it could compromise her future with Cade and Merrick.

Cade has his own set of issues when it comes to Elle, and it quickly becomes clear to the two men that for the first time in their friendship, a woman is coming between them. But what if they just kept her there? Between them. Where she belongs.

SHIFT INTO PASSION

This summer two exciting new shifter books in bestselling series hit the shelves. SHATTERED EMOTIONS, Book 5 in the Redwood Pack series & DIAMOND DUST, book 3 in the Takhini Wolves.

Carrie Ann Ryan and Vivian Arend have joined forces to bring you a few tidbits from their books. Take a minute, and we hope you enjoy!

The theme for this post?

First Kisses

Viv Arend: Let’s talk about 1st kisses. Not ours…our characters!

Carrie Ann Ryan: Let’s see. I was 13. The guy had braces… Oh.

Viv Arend: lol! Oh man, kissing with braces, THAT was fun.

Carrie Ann Ryan: In an “OMG that hurts” sort of way.

Viv Arend: Especially when you BOTH have them! Good thing our shifters don’t wear braces. What’s your favourite kind of 1st kiss for your characters?

Carrie Ann Ryan: For these two characters I wanted soft. They NEEDED soft. Usually I like them hard and against a wall without taking a breath, but Mad and Ellie needed soothing first.

Viv Arend: Yes, they totally did. That kiss was perfect for them! I find my characters always do the opposite of what I think they’re going to do. Like out of the blue that ‘about to consume you’ turns into the gentlest caress. Hmmmmm. 😀

Carrie Ann Ryan: I agree. At first I didn’t know if Maddox or Ellie would ever move on from softness. Boy was I wrong. *blushes*

Viv Arend:  Heheh. Blushing is good. I was surprised by Caroline and Tyler in that Tyler ended up being far more gentle then he seemed at the start. Love surprises like that

Carrie Ann Ryan: Oh yes! Though that Tyler. *whew* I loved how he turned out.

Viv Arend: …and Caroline loved how he turned out as well, so it’s all good! On to the kisses?

Carrie Ann Ryan: ‪Oh yeah.

Shattered Emotions

He was done talking, done with words and all that they meant. He needed to taste her, to feel her in his arms.

He ran a hand through her hair, loving the soft feel in his hands. She leaned forward but didn’t say anything, didn’t breath. Maddox moved closer, letting his lips barely brush hers, the soft feel almost his undoing. He moved his head side to side so their lips gently touched each other’s then pressed harder, loving the way she melted against him, her mouth parting ever so slightly.

He let his tongue barely trace her lips, teasing, testing, then opened her mouth farther, blending her moan with his own. He knew she needed softness, and he’d be the one to give it to her—even if it hurt to hold back.

Her mouth parted wider, and his tongue tangled with hers, their kiss deepening, their breath quickening. He pulled back, nibbling on her lips, moving his mouth along her chin to her ear. She turned her head to the side so he could nibble down her neck to the place where he’d mark her when they were ready.

He traced his lips back through his trail until he met her mouth, kissing her softly, wordlessly.

His wolf howled in pleasure, and he pulled back, cupping her face so he could look her in the eyes.

“Slowly,” he whispered, his voice shaky.

“Slowly,” she agreed, her lips partially swollen from his kisses.

Hell, slowly would kill him, but he needed to give her a chance to back out—something that would also kill him.

A promise meant nothing without the threat to break it up on its trail, and he wouldn’t let her hurt for him. They’d find a way to make it work.

They had to.

Diamond Dust

She turned in the doorway. “There we go. Safely home. Thanks for the lovely evening, and we’ll be in—”

He twisted her to the side and pinned her to the wall. Frustration, hunger—it all came together in one moment of need that had to be answered.

“Maybe it’s the fact you can take care of yourself that makes you so damn attractive.”

He wrapped one hand around the back of her head, the other at her hip as he kept her completely under his control. He caught her with her mouth open as he kissed her. A rush of excitement roared through him at her taste, and his bear finally settled in satisfaction.

She hesitated, and he wondered if his balls were in danger, then she thrust her fingers into his hair and dove wholeheartedly into the kiss. Tongues tangling, bodies pressed tightly together. She wrapped a leg around his thigh, opening her body to him. He used both hands to lift her, lining up their mouths better while easing his erection between her thighs.

Caroline groaned as his lips left hers, kissing his way along her jaw to her neck. The sound fluttered as he took hold of her earlobe and sucked lightly.

“How hard did I hit my damn head this morning?” Her muttered complaint was negated by the fisted grasp she maintained on his hair, holding him to her throat. She was nearly purring with satisfaction as he tasted her skin.

He licked, once, and her full-body shiver made the hair on his arms stand on end with the desire to take more.

To hell with restraint, he wanted to take it all.

After Hours

The blurb:

A dangerous infatuation with a rough and ready man…

Erin Coffey has been a nurse for years, but nothing’s prepared her for the physical and emotional demands of her new position. Needing to move closer to her dysfunctional family, she takes a dangerous job at Larkhaven Psychiatric Hospital, where she quickly learns that she needs protection—and she meets the strong, over-confident coworker who’s more than willing to provide it.

Kelly Robak is the type of guy that Erin has sworn she’d never get involved with. She’s seen firsthand, via her mess of a sister, what chaos guys like him can bring into a woman’s life. But she finds herself drawn to him anyway, even when he shows up at her door, not eager to take no for an answer.

What Erin finds even more shocking than Kelly’s indecent proposal is how much she enjoys submitting to his every command. But he can’t play the tough guy indefinitely. If they want to have more than just an affair, both will have to open up and reveal what they truly need.

I was hesitant to read this one at first. I usually avoid any romance that involves medical because they often get the basic facts wrong and that irritates me. But from the first chapter, Erin’s interactions with her patients and her feelings about working at a mental institution came across as authentic and well written. Then came her interactions with Kelly. Kelly is HOT. Big, bossy, and a little chauvinistic, he’s everything Erin shouldn’t want in a man but that doesn’t stop her. After agreeing to what she assumes is a sex-only weekend, Erin begins to see a different side of Kelly. He’s definitely bossy but he’s also protective. He wants to fix things for those he cares about and Erin is at the top of his list. Watching them find the balance in Erin being the strong woman she needs to be while still being able to lean on Kelly was great.

A little dark, a lot dirty, and at times so sweet, AFTER HOURS is a recommended read for any fan of erotic romance.

Now he’s home, full of regrets and intent on winning back the woman he never forgot. Abby gives Sean her body but holds her heart aloof, until one night of pleasure forces her to choose her U.S. Marine…or life without him, forever.

Chemistry, Take Two

It’s the must have component of every romance novel, the chemistry that makes what’s happening between the hero and heroine special, unique to their HEA. It’s the thing we can’t explain, the reason why your heart flutters when one man walks into a room but not another, the reason why you want that man right now over anyone else. It’s intangible, related to pheromones and hormones and something we can’t define. It never lasts and always lasts, and if you can act on it, it will change your life. Abby Simmons, the heroine in my current release UNCOMMON PLEASURE, has some wicked good chemistry with her hero, Lieutenant Sean Winthrop. Read on for a sample of that attraction!

It was nearly two thirty in the morning when Abby walked out the bar’s back door and headed for the cluster of cars at the far end of the lot, where employees parked. Ben and Steve were long gone. Linc locked the door and followed her into the parking lot, watching to make sure every waitress locked herself in her car and left his property. She’d started her shift at five, when the bar opened, so her car was in the furthest corner, behind Lisette’s Blazer and Tim’s F-150. Parked beside her Celica was Sean’s showy Mustang.

After a sharp-eyed look between Abby and Sean, Lisette peeled out. He leaned against the driver’s side door, arms folded across his chest. Abby’s steps slowed.

“I don’t need the bat, you know,” Linc said conversationally from behind her.

“It’s fine, Linc,” Abby said.

Otherwise expressionless, Sean transferred his laser focus to Linc. “I just want to talk to her.”

“Standing right here,” Abby said to the lights overhead. “I am standing . . . right . . . here . . . and they’re talking over me like I don’t exist.”

“Five minutes,” Sean amended, then switched those brilliant blue eyes back to her. “Please.”

The Please got her. “Go on home, Linc,” she said softly.

Sean’s gaze skimmed the length of her legs in the short skirt, then he crossed the short distance between his car and hers. He seemed bigger than she remembered, taller somehow, as if combat expanded him two sizes. He reached for her foot, slipped off her shoe and set it on the trunk.

The position was a little awkward, forcing her to lean back and brace her hands behind her, at the angle where the rear windshield met the trunk. Her skirt pooled in her lap, revealing the lacy tops of her thigh-high stockings as he took off her other shoe. Sean was hot before, in a clean-cut, spit-and-polish, perfect-wedding-photos kind of way, the jut of his ruthlessly shaved jaw mirroring the angle of his high-and-tight. Now dark-blond stubble glinted in the parking lot’s glaring lights, softened his jawline and emphasized his full mouth. She wondered what it would be like to kiss him with that sandpaper scraping against her lips.

Then he gripped her foot, thumb rubbing her instep in counterpoint to the four fingers massaging her arch, the simple movement so confident and sensual that heat cracked everywhere she’d apply perfume—the hollow of her throat, the base of her spine, the insides of her elbows.

“Oh, that’s good,” she said quietly. He did it again, easing strained tendons and ligaments at the same time need tugged at her nipples and clit. Her elbows bent enough to land against the rear windshield, and her head dropped forward. Through half-closed eyes she saw herself, sprawled on the trunk of her car, her skirt barely decent, the pale, freckled skin of her thighs visible between the black stocking tops and her skirt, her blouse buttons straining over her breasts.

She shouldn’t need this. A night with Ben every few weeks satisfied her just fine. And yet when Sean set down her left foot and switched to her right, she didn’t primly close her legs. She didn’t sit up and reestablish boundaries appropriate for jilted girlfriend and jilting Marine. She didn’t say the words that would prove she was over Sean, that in her life he was so last year, and totally unnecessary this year. Instead she let him rub her aching foot and watch the telling heat climb from her collarbone to her face.

He set her foot down on the bumper, then his warm palm slid up her calf to the back of her knee and stroked. “What do you want, Sean?” she asked, and if the words lacked the acid she’d imagined flinging at him, well, she wasn’t the only one feeling the connection between them. His erection strained against the front of his cargo pants.

“I want to take you out to dinner,” he said, his voice so low as to be almost soundless in the silent night.

She lifted both eyebrows and let her gaze drift down his torso to his erection. “Liar.”

“I owe you an apology,” he started.

Her bent knee dropped to rest against his waist. “No, you don’t,” she said, almost sweetly. “You did what you had to do. I’m over it. And I don’t have time for dinner, or lunch, or drinks, or coffee. All I have time for is a hookup. That was Ben’s job. If you want it for the duration of your leave, you can have it. He won’t mind sharing.”

There. It wasn’t disdainful or disinterested, given that her black lace panties were almost visible at the juncture of her thighs, but this was better. This satisfied something dark and sexual deep in her belly, something that tasted very much like revenge.

His hand was at the back of her thigh now, almost at the curve of her buttock, stroking delicate skin made sensitive by the tight elastic right below it. Standing between her knees, he planted his other hand on the rear windshield and bent forward, his hard body almost but not quite touching hers from lips to hips. The move put his mouth less than a breath from hers. Surprised, she dropped back against the windshield, but flattened her palms against his chest. Through his shirt she felt his heart pound, hard thuds that belied his calm demeanor.

“What are the hours? Job duties?”

His rough mouth avoided her lips to trail along her jaw and down her neck, making it very hard to manufacture an answer out of the thick, heated air in their bubble. “Whatever I want, whenever I want.”

The moment stretched between them, smoldering with things unspoken and lust. This wasn’t the studious, intense man who left her behind. Someone completely unknown challenged her from the darker shadows in his eyes.

“Deal,” he said. “But I’m your only hookup for the next month.”

“You don’t make the rules, Sean. I do.”

Without blinking he straightened, pivoted, and gave her his back, leaving her skin to cool in the night air. The locks on the Mustang clicked open. She shifted back to her elbows and watched him walk, knowing this was the perfect way to end it. It was her way or no way, and she wasn’t promising him a thing, especially not some fake fidelity. Except . . . her body remembered Sean. Wanted Sean. Because it was different with him. It wasn’t about stress relief. It was about pure need.

“Deal,” she said.

Do you remember any specific instances of chemistry? Did the relationship become a keeper, or was it a purely physical reaction? 🙂 One commentor will win a copy of UNCOMMON PLEASURE!

The Submissive

The first in Tara Sue Me’s seductive and scandalous series that has enthralled millions…

Abby King has a secret fantasy.

New York knows Nathaniel West as the brilliant and handsome CEO of West Industries, but Abby knows he’s more: a sexy and skilled dominant who is looking for a new submissive. Yearning to experience a world of pleasure beyond her simple life as a librarian, Abby offers herself to Nathaniel, to fulfill her most hidden desires.

After only one weekend with the Master, Abby knows she needs more, and fully submits to Nathaniel’s terms. But despite the pleasure he takes in Abby’s willing spirit, the Nathaniel hidden behind the rules remains cold and distant.

As Abby falls deeper into his tantalizing world of power and passion, she fears that Nathaniel’s heart may be beyond her reach—and that her own might be beyond saving…

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Today, I thought I’d sit down with the two characters from THE SUBMISSIVE for a little chat.

Tara: Thanks for joining me today guys.

Abby: We’re glad you invited us.

Tara: I thought it’d be best to get some answers straight from the horse’s mouth.

Nathaniel: Did you just call me a horse?

Tara: Trust me, I’ve called you a lot worse. But, you know, moving on. First question, Nathaniel, what do think attracts women to a dominant male?

Nathaniel: I don’t know why you’re asking me, I’m not a woman nor have I ever been attracted to a dominant male.

Tara: Someone’s still upset over the horse remark I see. Okay, Abby, what do you think?

Abby: I don’t think there’s just one answer to that question. I think it could be any number of reasons and it’s probably different for each woman. For me it’s the feeling of giving yourself entirely to someone you know you can trust, not only with your body, but your mind and soul, too. You’re able to drop all your doubts and fears, resting totally in the knowledge that you’re the most important thing in the world to him.

Tara: You bring up an important point, Abby, and that’s how much care and attention the dominant has for a submissive in their care. It’s not a way to take advantage of someone. Different side of the story, Nathaniel, what’s it like when someone gives you that sort of power over them?

Nathaniel: It’s like no high imaginable. To have someone almost literally place their life in your hands? It’s the biggest turn on there is. How can you not turn that back around and bring them the greatest pleasure possible? When Abby submits to me she’s not just saying, “Here I am, do whatever you want to me-“

Abby: Hmmm, no. That’s pretty much what I’m saying.

Nathaniel: *squeezes Abby’s knee and kisses her cheek* Okay, you’re saying that to an extent, but you’re also saying, “I trust you to take me beyond what I think is possible, to give me just a bit more than what I think I can handle, and then to bring me back safely.”

Abby: Okay, you’re right. That’s what I’m saying.

Nathaniel: *stroking Abby’s cheek* I know, my lovely. Just as I know you’re going to enjoy what I have planned this weekend, though you might not believe me to start with.

Tara: This sounds good. Let me grab a pen.

Nathaniel: This one’s just for me and Abby, Tara. Maybe next time.

Tara: I guess I owe you that much. Thanks so much for talking with me today.

Oliver has been attracted to Beth since the moment they met but he never expected the pull he feels for Josh. Oliver has never been attracted to men but can’t deny that his dream is to be naked and sweaty between Josh and Beth.

Beth knows that she wants both Josh and Oliver in her life and bed and, after a night spent with both, she’s willing to fight to keep them there. Fight Oliver’s self esteem issues and fight Josh’s habit of pulling away when times get tough.

Calling the Shots was hot, no doubt about it. From Oliver learning to embrace the fact that he is a submissive bisexual man to Beth exploring her identity as a switch, the chemistry was off the charts. The emotions behind it were believable and I loved how strong and vulnerable Beth was. My only problem was Josh. He confused me and I didn’t understand his reasons behind why he wouldn’t even contemplate a committed relationship. This was my first book of the Long Shots series so maybe I would have felt differently if I’d read the previous books. At 92% of the book, more of Josh’s background was explained and I had a better understanding of him but it was too little too late. I just didn’t connect with him.

The secondary suspense angle moved the story along, played on Josh’s insecurities, and surprised me with who the bad guy was. Overall, an enjoyable read.
