Liz Kowalski is heading home to Whitford, Maine—this time for good. Eager for her family, a fresh start and some fun, she doesn’t count on being rescued by the chief of police her very first night back in town. Drew is everything she’s not looking for…so why is she still so attracted to him?
After a brief, forbidden rendezvous at her brother’s wedding, Drew Miller expects Liz to return to New Mexico and stay there. He’s searching for someone to settle down with, not a casual fling with his best friend’s sister. But when they’re stuck together on the annual Kowalski camping trip, things start going a little sideways. Keeping their hands off each other proves just as impossible as keeping their secret from becoming public knowledge.
Amid family, mud and melted marshmallow, Liz and Drew try to fight what’s growing between them. But a little time alone, a lot of chemistry and too many opinions might be just what it takes to bring together two people so determined not to fall in love.
~*~I’m often asked about my inspiration for the Kowalski series and/or whether or not it’s drawn from my real life. Well, they say to write what you know, and I know the Kowalskis. Not literally, of course, because that would mean either I’m crazy or there’s a real Kowalski family that’s probably pretty mad at me by now.
But I know close-knit families who bicker and laugh and love one another no matter what. I know four-wheelers and mud and dodging flaming marshmallows at the campfire. I’ll confess that the snowmobiling that goes on in some of the books isn’t writing what I know, seeing as how my winter sport is reading, but my husband’s an avid sledder, so I nag him into helping me with the snow scenes.
We visit the scenic overlook that inspired the Kowalskis’ favorite picnic spot quite often. It’s a good place to sit and contemplate life. Or build those little piles of stacked rocks that, for some reason, makes us yell “Aliens!” every time we see them. I have no idea why we do that. You guys do that, too, right?
Camp wouldn’t be camp without practical jokes, like the time I woke up to find my ATV wrapped in caution tape. (I believe the occasion was my 40th birthday and payback for that little stunt is still pending. But it will come.)
And what’s happiness? A Blackberry Merlot slushie in a frosted Boston Bruins mug with a Dunkin Donuts straw in front of the campfire at the end of the day.
So tell me, what’s your happy drink? Whether it’s summer or winter, outdoors or inside, what drink do you savor at the end of a long day? Or maybe one of each. I like that wine slushie after a summer ride, but nothing beats Dunkin Donuts Hot Cocoa K-cups on a cold winter evening. Tell me yours!
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Shannon Stacey lives with her husband and two sons in New England, where her favorite activities are writing romance and really random tweets when she’s not riding her ATV. She loves mud, books, knitting, football & watching way too much TV. She can also be found blogging (almost) daily on her website, www.shannonstacey.com and is often spotted running amok on Twitter and Facebook.

I’m a little bit addicted to Pepsi Max these days and pretty much have one every day…I don’t drink coffee and I think it is my equivalent. Summer here in Queensland, Australia can be scorching hot and on those days there’s nothing more refreshing than a slushy…whether its soft drink or champagne!
Ginger ale and Jameson on the rocks. after a long day at work and I need a little something to cool me off. Just thinking about it right now makes me happy that I can have one at the end of the day today. LOL
Can’t wait to read Liz’s story. This is one I have been looking forward to reading.
I love a soothing cup of chamomile tea. I purchased organic chamomile (the actual herb) from Amazon and it’s the difference in night and day from teabags. I almost can relax just thinking about it. Your book sounds great! Thanks for the contest!
I would love to win a copy, this book sounds interesting. I love the cover.
I love Shannon’s books; would love to win it as well as that wonderful g.c. Thank you.
I love a glass of Moscato wine at the end of the day, sweet and yummy it’s my relaxing drink. During winter though my nightly drink is a hot cup of coffee with a splash of Irish cream and I too love those Duncin hot chocolate k cups.
Liz’s story sounds really fun and can’t wait to read it.
I have waited to read this book since Josh’s book. Thank you for the giveaway and I have added this to my tbr pile.
My favourite summer drink is a mix of green tangerine syrup, freshly squeezed lemon juice & sparkling water. And of course, there is nothing better than a steaming mug of hot cocoa on a cold winter’s day. Looking forward to reading “Love A Little Sideways”.
I always ask for Black Tea with vanilla sweatener. Even if it’s 30 degrees outside, i always ask for ixe tea 🙂
Best summer drink is a mimosa while having brunch with my girlfriends before heading to a Cubs game. Winter drink is anything hot with whipped cream and a shot of Jameson 🙂
Thanks for the great giveaway!
Right now I’m loving Mikes hard pink lemonade. I also love this series!
Oh, I have heard a lot about the Kowalsky books, but never read one. I would like to try my luck here.
My favorite drink is cold tea. We have a tea here in Germany with the name “Spanische Orange” (Spanish orange) and that’s my favorite.
I can’t wait for this one!!!!
So cool 🙂 I love Shannon Stacey’s books. Thanks for the giveaway 🙂
My favorite is a cup of jasmine tea. It is fragrant, soothing, and can be served hot or cooled depending on the season.
Ihave never read a Kowalski book but I love books about families that love, laugh, and sometimes fright.
My favorite wintry drink is hot chocolate. There is something about it that is so soothing. I love it.
Happy Release Day to Shannon. I love mango margaritas. I need to try the Blackberry Merlot slushie.
This book sounds great. Can’t wait to read it!
My happy drink is a Cosmo!
Water is my favorite beverage. But when a “happy drink” is called for, I’ll opt for a margarita. The book sounds great. Thanks for the giveaway.
My daily go to drink is Dr. Pepper, in the summer months I love banana smoothies and in the winter I love hot chocolate. I take that back, I am obsessed with hot chocolate. I have a cocomotion machine and am forever trying all types of hot chocolate, this week it was Abuelita.
I love wine. Not gonna lie – I am not picky about the type, lol! I do tend to avoid reds, though, as I get a headache from them.
Love the sound of this book…great post btw!
I love coffee and hot coco on a cold winter day. But in the summer I love a good cold 7up also ice green tea. I love the cover of your book and it sounds really good.
I love a good hot chocolate any day of the year, but when I am really cold and beat, a sweet liquer please. Like 43, or Amaretto or Creme de Cassis.
On a daily basis I drink Diet Coke. When camping we always have hot chocolate with Bailey’s Irish Cream in it. If I go out I like the slushy drinks like frozen daiquiris. Plus I love frapps from Starbucks, especially the seasonal flavors.
I enjoy a Hot Chai Tea all year. Wonderful book. Than ks.
I LOVE Shannon Stacey books!!
After a long day of four wheeling I prefer an ice cold beer! But my only grown up drinks these days, that I don’t get very often, is either an ice cold Dr. Pepper or Pepsi! *sigh* now I need a soda!! This sounds like another fantastic Kowalski read! Happy release day and thanks for the giveaway!
I must have my Coke every day (and I do mean the soda not the no no stuff). I like it straight out of the can.
Thanks for the giveaway. On a cold winter day, I enjoy a hot chocolate with whipped cream.
I like a big mug of hot chocolate
On a really hot day, an ice cold Corona can hit the spot but I usually drink Coke or green tea.
I don’t really have a happy drink – just gimme a cappuccino or latte of some sort and I’m good to go! I like trying new flavors.
Hot chocolate with a healthy dollop if whipped cream and some chocolate shavings in winter and a nice Coke Slurpee in the summer
I am a person of extremely simple tastes–coffee in the morning, water the rest of the day. Very rarely, a classic coke.
Tapioca milk tea is my drug. And if the weather wasn’t amenable, then almost any potted green tea would do.
This book sounds interesting, I see myself with a cup of tea and relaxing while reading this book, if I should win.
I would love to read this book. It sounds really good. Thanks for the giveaway.
Stacey’s book sounds great. I love the cover. I love a mug of hot chocolate.
I would love to win and read this book! It sounds awesome and I just love the title. Thanks for the chance.
I’m from the south, so sweet tea is the ultimate comfort drink for me 🙂
My happy drink is a White Russian. Reminds me of the days when hubby and I spent a few days in Vegas. Of course, this being before the kids.
During the winter, it’s hot apple cider, but the rest of the year, I favor ginger ale 🙂
My normal drink of choice is Diet Mt. Dew. However, in the summer nothing really beats a nice cool glass of iced tea and for winter it would be hot chocolate.
I am really looking forward to reading “Love a Little Sideways”…I am a huge fan of the Kowalskis!!
I hope you and your family have a Happy Thanksgiving!
It would be a cup of hot green tea. Thanks for the interesting post and contest!
when I want something cold, it’s Coke, when I want hot, Dunkin’ s hot coffee and Land O’ Lakes French Vanilla cocoa.
When I want something cold, have to have my Coke; when I want hot, it’s Dunkin’s coffee and sometimes Land O’ Lakes French Vanilla cocoa
The blurb sounds cute and awesome. I would really love to win a copy 🙂
Thanks for the chance to win!
You could have been describing my family here when you said, “But I know close-knit families who bicker and laugh and love one another no matter what. I know four-wheelers and mud and dodging flaming marshmallows at the campfire.” We are a family like this and hubby and I have 6 children ourselves and 1 grandchild 🙂
The book sounds great and I’m looking forward to reading it.
Thanks
Gotta have a latte (or mocha, depending on what I’m having with it) each day, especially once things get nippy! Hot chocolate is always a treat, too…
In the winter, I’m partial to hot apple cider with a shot of Butterscotch schnapps. In the summer, I’ll take a mojito every time.
I drink too much coca cola and coffee .. Those are my favorite drinks 😛
Fun post
