Melissa Cutler here, and I’m thrilled to be on RR@H Novel Thoughts talking about cowboys. It’s been a whirlwind month spreading the word about COWBOY JUSTICE, my latest western romance, and the icing on the cake was my six day adventure in Las Vegas last week.
Guess who was also in Las Vegas last week? Cowboys! More specifically, professional bull riders and their huge, awesome fan contingency. While many of the fans in attendance of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) World Finals were cowboys themselves, there were a huge number of women who love romance novels. Imagine my delight!
For three days, I manned a booth at the PBR Fan Zone—along with fellow western author Laura Drake and the Barnes & Noble reps selling our books—and introduced romance readers to COWBOY JUSTICE and THE TROUBLE WITH COWBOYS. I felt like a romance genre ambassador, and couldn’t have been more proud to declare to each and every woman (and lots of men) who walked by our booth: “I’m a romance author and I’d love to talk to you about my books.”
Sure, we got the occasional snickers from poor, unfortunate souls who are ignorant about our wonderful genre, and, yes, if I’d done a shot of whiskey every time someone asked me how my books compared to Fifty Shades, I’d be dead. And there’s always that guy who has to ask if we practice the sex scenes with our husbands (oy), but, by and large, people’s responses were enthusiastic and supportive…and I got my books into the hands of lots and lots of romance novel lovers.
As a bonus, everywhere I looked I saw cowboy hats and Wrangler butts. And, I must admit, I got the “yes, ma’am” shivers more than once when talking to the many polite, gentlemanly cowboys I met. I learned to recognize a bull rider swagger coming from a mile away and grew to appreciate the kind of event that offers shots of Jack Daniels for purchase at the concession stands. If you ever get the chance to attend a PBR event, I highly recommend it. I guarantee you won’t be the only romance novel (or cowboy) lover there taking in the sights and excitement.
From the Back Cover of COWBOY JUSTICE:
She can’t help but fall for the sexy sheriff—again…
Rachel Sorentino’s first regret about shooting at the vandals targeting her property is that her aim wasn’t better. Her second is that when bullets started flying, it was Sheriff Vaughn Cooper’s number she dialed. Vaughn is the mistake she keeps on making, and no matter how inconvenient their attraction—for his career, her tangled case, and their already battered hearts—there’s no denying what feels so irresistibly right…

My thanks to Fatin and RR@H Novel Thoughts for hosting me today. I love hearing from readers and am really easy to find at www.melissacutler.net, on Facebook (www.facebook.com/MelissaCutlerBooks ), and Twitter (@m_cutler). Bio: Melissa Cutler knows she has the best job in the world, dividing her time between her dual passions for writing sexy contemporary romances and edge-of-your-seat romantic suspense for Harlequin, Penguin, and Kensington Books. She was struck at an early age by an unrelenting travel bug and is probably planning her next vacation as you read this. When she’s not globetrotting, she’s enjoying Southern California’s flip-flop wearing weather and wrangling two rambunctious kids.
I think the sexiest cowboy is George Strait. He is a great singing artist, but also a REAL cowboy.
This is such a hard question!! I love cowboys so to choose just one? I loved Brad Pitt in Legends of the fall, Robert DuVall in Lonesome Dove, Tom Selleck, George Strait is up there also! I would love to win a calendar and see a cowboy every day!! Thanks for the chance to win, and now I will look up cowboy pictures!!
The sexist cowboy would be John Wayne without a doubt!
I think Tim McGraw is a sexy cowboy. Love his looks and his singing.
That is such a tough question to ask. And to make me choose one, that is very mean. So I am going to choose two from one author and series. I am choosing Boone & Dallas from Randi Alexander’s Jackpot series. They are both Rodeo stars and are some very sexy cowboys. Okay wait, I also have to have a little Kellen Reed also. I loved him and want to take him for a ride, or maybe he can take me for a ride. *wink-wink* 😉
Real cowboy I would have to choose either be Toby Keith or Blake Shelton.
I totally want this calendar. Something to look at everyday and get me up in the morning.
I also think George Strait, but you could add in Tom Selleck. I had a huge crush on Roy Rogers when I was younger. I always wanted to meet him. My husband got his autograph for me years ago when Roy attended a trap shooting meet at Edwards AFB where my husband ran the rod and gun club.
Wyatt Earp. My hero and idol.
Honestly I thought I lost my love of Western Romance until I read Cowboy Justice because Sheriff Vaughn Cooper is the sexiest cowboy I’ve read in a long time…so I am going to go w/him as far as a book! Movie Paul Newman in ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’
My Favorite is Trace Akins I love his voice. I also like Douglas Duncan, a bull rider.
Hmm. It’s a total toss-up between Kellen Reed and Vaughn Cooper. But if I’m forced to pick one (I am, right? LOL), then I’ll go with Kellen. No, Vaughn. Or maybe Kellen. Crap. Can’t I just pick both? 🙂
Wyatt Earp friend Doc Holiday
Tough question…I think a real live…living the life cowboy would be the sexiest but since I seem to be in short supply of those around here I’m gonna go with Jason Aldeen
George Strait–he is a great singer but the way he fills out his Wranglers is a sin. Cherry on top is he is a real working cowboy. Works for me!
I’d have to go with Alan Jackson. His voice gives me the “cowboy shivers.”
George Strait, but I would also add Sam Elliot because of his voice!
All of you who picked Kellan or Vaughn as your favorite cowboy are picking up some major brownie points, lol! In all seriousness, thanks for stopping by the blog. I can’t wait to send that sexy calendar to one of you. I got to meet in person many of the men on that cover, and let me tell you, that bull rider swagger is no joke. Those men know good and well that they’re part of an elite group of athletes in the most dangerous sport on earth.
It has been a dream of mine to attend a PBR event, hopefully one day!! To me the sexiest cowboy alive is Sam Elliot! God, that man is gorgeous.
One of my favorite fictional ones is Cord McKay from the book Cowgirl Up and Ride. There are many on the list, but he’s right up there.
Oh lord, this is a HARD one Melissa!!! Since I am still on cloud nine from meeting Alan Jackson, I would say him….. and my all time is John Wayne… the Searcher is still one of my favorite movies ever….. Yes and Kellan is definitely in contention… HUGS
Love me some cowboys! It’s a good thing I live in Texas!
My favorites are Tom Selleck and Tim McGraw! Can’t
decide on just one!
Matthew McConaughey
John Travolta in Urban Cowboy
I love Tim McGraw. I t hink he is hot.
I think I must go with the Duke–such a classic! 😉 Thanks for the terrific post, Melissa!
Wow it is so hard to pick just one! I will go with George Strait in Pure Country. Melissa your fictional cowboys are so real and swoon worthy that If I met them in real life, I just might faint.
