Bridget longs to meet a gentleman who doesn’t mention her beautiful sister upon shaking her hand. But since being branded a shrew after a disastrous social season, Bridget knows she’s lucky to even have a man come near her. It’s enough to make a lady flee the country…
So Bridget heads to Venice for music lessons with the renowned Italian composer Vincenzo Carpenini, with whom she’s been corresponding. But not only is Carpenini not expecting her, he doesn’t even remember her! His friend, theater owner Oliver Merrick, does, though. And one look into her tantalizing green eyes has him cursing his impulsive letter-writing, which brought her across the continent. Yet before Merrick can apologize, Carpenini has ordered her away.
Little does either man know that they will soon be embroiled in a wager that will require the beautiful Miss Forrester’s help—or that there’ll be far more at stake in this gamble than money…

Calgon, Take Me Away!
Let’s face it, with increasing fuel prices, airfare, and the horrors of going through whatever new torture the TSA has devised, the idea of travel is more romantic than the reality. After all, who wants to be jammed into a plane like sardines, placated with 40 channels of basic cable, or forced into a minivan with small children and no iPads for a trip?
Problem is, I love to see new places. I love to taste new foods, see breathtaking architecture, and hear different languages. I love having new experiences. And when life gets in the way of those desires, I have the happy luck to be able to escape via books.
Which is a good enough reason to set my latest novel, Let It Be Me in Venice, Italy.
But of course, it’s not the only reason. Bridget Forrester, my heroine, desperately needs to get out of London. She’s had a bad time of it – an unsuccessful first season living in the shadow of her sister, an unearned reputation as someone cold and shrewish. Which is why, when she’s offered the opportunity to study music with renowned composer Vincenzo Carpenini, she doesn’t hesitate to get on a ship and sail for Venice. She needs the chance to be new again.
And it works. Being introduced to Venice gives Bridget life. It opens her eyes and her heart to the wonder of a city built on an island crisscrossed with canals. It also opened her up to meet Oliver Merrick.
Oliver’s in Venice learning about himself too – but a bit more literally. His mother was Italian, by his father English. He wanted to get to know that half of his heritage he had previously been denied. But his eyes are opened up to Bridget too – especially when his friend Vincenzo Carpenini needs her help to win a musical competition that Vincenzo embroiled them all in.
As stressful as the competition is, it does give Oliver and Bridget the chance to wander the streets of Venice together.
There is something remarkably alluring about being someplace foreign. It can change the way you see the world, and it can change the way you see yourself.
So how about you? What is your dream place to visit? One lucky commenter will win a signed copy of Let It Be Me!
I would love to go back to visit Scotland again and get to spend more time. I also dream of visiting Ireland and exploring my roots.
The beaches near San Louie O’Bispbo in California made me realise there was more out there than in my tiny town in Utah. It helped me be successful in what I loved to do, gave me a man I would love for over 40 years & a family I will love forever. Please concider me for your giveaway.
Australia
I have always wanted to go to London. I would love to spend a month there just seeing everything. The museums, the parks, the great food & restaurants, and all the other cool sites. Big Ben, Abbey Road & studios, Buckingham palace, and some many other places.
Thanks for the chance to win.
If there were no time or money constraints, it would definately be Australia! Who could refuse a trip to the Land Down Under?
I’d like to visit Ireland, Scotland, England & Norway. I’ve previously visited & enjoyed Switzerland, France & Canada… Australia and New Zealand would be awesome to visit too… OMG! There’s just so many places to go and not enough time. I think that’s one reason I enjoy books so much… I can visit so many places… truly exotic locales… and never leave home. Thanks for the contest!
Only one place? Oh lord…
Unless it’s a country–of better yet, a continent!
But if I must limit myself…
Gah. Athens.
Or Paris.
Or Ireland–really, so many things. Scotland.
Oh dear. I need lots of money and no obligations, don’t I? 😀
I would love to visit Peru! I have been to Scotland and will definitely return there, it is a magical place!Thank you for the chance and congratulations on the release, can’t wait to read it! 😀
I would love to visit Venice, Italy and Scotland – two totally different areas …lol. I haven’t been on a plane in years though and hate the idea of having to deal with the TSA…lol. Thanks for the giveaway – Let It Be Me sounds great!
I would love to visit Germany 🙂
Oh, really anywhere! Haven’ been on vacation in 6 years! I guess a dream would be Ireland. The pictures always look so lush & green, and the people seem friendly.
I live 1.5 hour drive from Venice, therefore I’d love to go somewhere more further 🙂 Like Scotland or Ireland, for example.
I would love to return to Scotland and visit Edinburgh again. I loved walking around New Town. Even Old Town is absolutely beautiful to stroll around and of course eat and shop!
I use to say Scotland was where I always wanted to visit now I want to go there and also Hawaii. I would love to read this book, sounds awesome.
I’d love to get back to Italy – I was there in 2000 but had to come home early. I did get to Venice and loved it – so unique!
Won a sweepstakes prize in 1998 which was a trip to Venice. Loved it but a week was not enough time to see all of the city. Would dearly love to go back!
Hawaii would be my second choice.
Scotland. I’d just, you know, ask people to talk to me… 😉
Hi Kate!
I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to travel to Scotland the home of my ancestors but my one dream is to be able to go on vacation to Italy with my husband. His father and one of his Aunt’s were born in the United states but their 13 siblings were all born in Italy and it has always been his dream to travel there and experience the country that he heard so much about from his Grandmother and Grandfather along with his gaggle of Aunts and Uncle who were born there.
Fortunately he did inherit the ability to recreate the recipes he grew up learning and even though we live in Rhode Island which has excellent Italian restaurants in Federal Hill that are known throughout the Northeast no one can make better meal balls and homemade pasta then my husband. It’s like visiting Italy and sitting outside in the sunshine at a small table with a glass of wine and watching people walking by and taking in the grandeur all around them!
I would love to visit Italy.
Love the premise of your story, Kate! There are so many places I’d still love to visit–much of Europe’s on that list, but then again, so is a lot of Asia, and definitely Australia! Um… an around-the-world tour?? 😉
I want to travel through all of Great Britain at a very leisurely pace.
Scotland or New Zealand. Those are my top two right now. I’ve been to Italy, Jamaica, Ireland and London (all wonderful places!).
Ireland and Venice
There are so many places to visit and so little time! I would love to visit London, to go to the theaters, the museums, the parks, and even a “football” game as I am an avid fan of English soccer. Any place I go would be my “Calgon, take me away” place.
Visiting Italy would be a dream come true.
I have always wanted to go to Australia.
My dream visit is New Zealand. I would like to live there when I retire.
“Let it be me” getting to Venice – or Paris, Scotland, Germany. So looking forward to reading your latest, Kate!
I’d love to visit Tahiti and Iceland. Two very different places!
I have always wanted to see the pyramids in Egypt and take a cruise down the Nile.
HELLO KATE. I WOULD LOVE TO VISIT THE VIRGIN ISLANDS. I NEVER BEEN OVERSEAS. IT SEEMS LIKE A WONDERFUL PLACE TO TRAVEL AND GET YOUR ROMANCE ON!!!
Great guest post, thank you. Venice is one of my dream vacations, while touring Italy for a few weeks. But I also want to see Australia and New Zealand, Japan and America.
