best_350.jpgA year ago, Tori let her guard down and Brody Kent slipped right in, planting one hot, unforgettable kiss on her in a dark corner at the company Christmas party. Though the kiss surpassed her wildest dreams, she can’t let it happen again. She loves Brody, but he’s got a reputation for loving and leaving. She’ll have to keep her heart—and her libido—in check.

Brody can’t get the time of day from Tori—ever since that impulsive kiss, she’s avoided him with the same brutal efficiency she uses to manage his family’s construction company office. The company can’t afford to lose her, and Brody’s come to realize that he can’t live without her. But how can he convince Tori that he’s a changed man?

It just might take a Christmas miracle.

Did you ever want something so badly, but knew you shouldn’t have it? Like a pair of shoes, or a new purse. You know once you buy it, you’ll have buyer’s remorse. You’ll feel bad for having it, like you knew you shouldn’t have done it. But you just can’t seem to help yourself, because it’s something you covet, something you’ve wanted for a very long time.

Or maybe it’s that candy bar you covet. Only you’ve been trying to lose those last ten pounds, and chocolate is the very last thing you should be thinking about. But that’s your favorite candy, and you’ve just been dying to have it. So you relent, and while it’s delicious at the time, you have guilt afterward.

Sometimes the resistance is part of the fun, or part of the reward at the end. If I just do A, then I can have B. Or maybe you test your willpower, and see how long you can hold out. Or is it just me who does that? (Note: My willpower? Sucks. I will totally buy that purse or shoes and I’ll eat that candy bar—screw the diet.)

But as far as denying oneself what they truly want, that’s the way Tori Lewis feels about Brody Kent in my current release, The Best Thing, available now from Carina Press. Tori has carried a torch for Brody since she was fifteen years old, but Brody has gone through the women in town one by one, and she doesn’t ever intend to just be another statistic, one of the many he’s romanced and left behind. There’s too much at stake for her—her job, and her relationship with the Kent family. But the kiss they shared at last year’s Christmas party has left her wanting. It’s left Brody wanting, too, and determined to prove to Tori that he’s a changed man.

The fun in crafting a book about temptation, and going for something you know you shouldn’t, is the push/pull of the characters. Brody never thought he wanted Tori until that kiss. And then she backed off and pushed him away, and now he wants her more than ever, because he realized the one woman who’s perfect for him has been right under his nose—or in his case, in his office—for years. Because he wants what he can’t have, and though Tori can have Brody, she’s not going to allow herself to indulge, because she’s afraid of the consequences, afraid she’ll lose everything she holds dear.

But sometimes the rewards are worth the risk. That purse, those shoes, that chocolate. And of course, the big reward—love.

I hope you enjoy The Best Thing, and I wish you all a very happy holiday season!

Blurb

Someone—or something—is stalking Abby Marcheson. Luckily, she has her brother’s
hunky friend Seth to keep her safe. Abby falls easily into her protected life, with Seth
constantly by her side, and when he asks her out on a date, she’s eager to accept.

But Seth is much more than he seems. A Nephilim, a son of Angels with wings of his own,
Seth is bound to spend his life hunting the Shemyaza, evil descendants of Angels. He’s
kept his wings hidden from Abby in order not to frighten her, but as her stalker becomes
bolder, Seth begins to suspect that a Shem has Abby in its sights…

As their flirtation escalates into full-blown passion, Seth is torn. Should he reveal his true
nature to the beautiful, trusting Abby? Will she accept him, wings and all, or will Abby
flee her guardian angel and fall prey to the sinister force that wishes her harm?

Abby’s last relationship left her with scars and a fear of men but her brother’s friend, Seth, has managed to get past her walls. She’s ready to let go of a terrifying past but it appears that her ex is back and not willing to let her go.

Seth wants nothing more than to keep Abby safe and being a Nephilim will help with that if Abby will trust him. He knows she’s not telling him everything about the night that left her and her family injured and took her brother’s life. The balance between uncovering all the details while keeping her trust is a tricky one, especially when he is keeping secrets of his own. Like his ability to grow wings and fly and the fact that her stalker is connected to the enemies he has dedicated his life to defeating.

All For You is darker than previous Bell books. While the trademark humor is still there, the angst and violence take a more prominent role. Abby is so damaged but fights so hard to get what she wants from life. And Seth is just plain yummy. Badass warrior by night, caring (and hot!) lover by day. Seeing him lose his laid back attitude when Abby is in danger was fantastic!

It took me longer than normal to read this one because of the detailed world building. There are different types of Nephs and Shems and they have different powers. All the Neph names slowed down the story at times but they are important to the book and, I assume, the series in the future.

I believe fans of the early Black Dagger Brotherhood books and Larissa Ione’s Demonica series will love this new world from Dana Marie Bell. Strong female characters, a group of warriors (both male and female) who have become a family with all its quirks, and fabulously evil bad guys you can’t wait to see destroyed. With so many fascinating characters introduced, I’m very curious who will get their story next.
