Dangerous. Ruthless. Savage.
And she’s the good guy.
Abby Sinclair had a desperate childhood until she was rescued and adopted by a retired army ranger who molded her into a master of self-defense. Now, she’s a cunning and fearless assassin thrust into assignment after dangerous assignment, using everything she has—nerve, resilience, strength, sex—to come out on top. Her only rule: never trust anyone.
Abby’s latest assignment is in Columbia: go undercover and snuff out a dangerous arms dealer active in the underground sex trade. But when Abby purposely blows her cover in a last-ditch attempt to free the helpless victims, deadly mercenary Kane Woodland is recruited as back-up. His mission: get Abby out of that hell hole.
The last thing Kane expects is to feel primal attraction for Abby. But when she convinces him to join her on her perilous mission, their newfound passion could put the lives of their whole team at risk.

This week I’ve been blogging a lot about powerful women, since Abby Sinclair, the heroine of my latest release, MIDNIGHT RESCUE, is just that—a powerful woman. But as much as I love Abby’s strength and determination and stubbornness, she probably wouldn’t be as fun if she didn’t have an alpha male to go up against. So today I’m blogging not about the kickass heroine, but the alpha male.
Here’s the thing—in real life, I’m not sure I want some bossy, hot-headed man ordering me around. I don’t want someone making demands of me, or making decisions without asking for my input, or doing all those other annoying things alpha males do.
But in a romance? Bring it on! There’s nothing sexier than a hero who knows what he wants, doesn’t apologize for it, and goes after it, especially when what he wants is a woman who’s going to make him work for it. That’s actually my only caveat—don’t give me an alpha hero if the heroine doesn’t have a little alpha in her too. Shrinking violets drive me nuts, and I want a heroine who can stand up to the big, bad tough guy in her life and doesn’t let him walk all over her.
The hero of MIDNIGHT RESCUE, Kane Woodland is definitely a little domineering. Fine, a lot domineering. But when you’re dealing with a woman as tough and emotionless as Abby, what else is he supposed to do? He’s gotta wear her down somehow, so if it means being bossy and arrogant and pushing her at times, well, he’s totally up for the task.
My favorite romances are the ones in which the hero and heroine are equals. They can both kick butt and they order each other around. To me, that sounds like way more fun!
So what about everyone else? Do you like the alpha hero with an alpha heroine or a “beta” heroine? What’s your favorite alpha male quality? Who’s your favorite alpha hero in a romance?
I’m giving away one copy of MIDNIGHT RESCUE to anyone who stops by and comments today, so comment away!

I don’t known if alpha and feisty are the same thing, but I do like my heroine to be able to hold her own at least personality wise in regards to the hero. Physically, I like the male to be dominant. I like a lot of push and pull between the two. Thanks!
I really want to read this book. I love action and romance in a book. Please enter me in contest. Tore923@aol.com
I have too many alpha faves. I’ll go with Wrath from BDB today. But since this is a romantic suspense book, I’ll also mention another great hero, Roarke from the In Death series. Love them both! Thanks for the giveaway!
Love Roarke! But if I had to pick a BDB hero, I’d got with Butch. He’s my ultimate fave 🙂
I replied once to this, but it didn’t show up. So, take two. If the first reply ends up showing up, sorry for the repetition! But yeah, Roarke is awesome! And if I had to pick a BDB hero, it’s Butch all the day. He’s my fave 🙂
I like a strong confident character (male & female). The fun is in seeing them make a connection & being able to give up some of their own control to the other in order to make a forever connection.
I like an Alpha female who can step down for her hunky Alpha male but not be walked on at the same time.
I love a heroine that won’t step down… can be toe to toe with the Alpha Hero… it makes the interaction between the two so much more.
Both the hero and heroine with alpha characteristics can really be a lot of fun, love the fireworks. A beta heroine can totally work for me too. She can have her own strengths (not necessarily physically), and hold her own. Love the verbal sparring from a well matched couple, with all the sexual chemistry building up to the oh so perfect romantic moment.

I’m all about verbal sparring. It’s so much fun, and I try to have a good verbal spar in every book I write 🙂
Nice review. The book and characters sounds good.
Two alphas, I do not know, I honestly can’t say if I have ever truly read one so that would be fun for once. But I like all sorts, alpha, beta, just bring it
man that is a tough question because there are too many that come to mind. I’ll just say the most recent hero/heroine I read and that would be Hart MacKenzie and Eleanor Ramsey from The Duke’s Perfect Wife. Great story and they both were a good match for each other. She didn’t cower and he was definitely a force to be reckon with.
I prefer to see the hero and heroine well matched. I want them both to be Alpha, strong and independent. If they are true equals it makes for a better story. Abby sounds like a kicka$$ heroine.
l do enjoy an alpha female at times, but I’ll admit, I don’t mind a beta female. I guess for me, I’m not the strong, kick-ass type of person so I sometimes do like reading about a female character that is at least a little more like myself. Although, I admit, I wish I was a stronger person.
I guess I just like variety in my heroes and heroines. I don’t want to read only kick-ass characters and vice versa.

Pam, I am not kick-ass either–AT ALL! So I guess that’s why it was so fun to write about someone like Abby. that way I can feel tough without actually having to be tough LOL But I agree, I do like variety as well. Not every heroine can be alpha, and shouldn’t.
I definitely like the alpha hero to have an alpha heroine, someone who can hold her own against a strong, aggressive, opinionated male.
I don’t really have any favorite alpha males in particular, they’re all fantastic to me.

I think my alltime fav hero was Sam Starrett, a tough Navy SEAL, in Suzanne Brockmann’s books. He’s smart, kind, funny, and has a heart of gold. Best of all when he fell in love he fell hard! Myself, I like a Beta heroine with an alpha hero because I love how the hero brings her out of her shell and makes her realise that she’s special
My favorite books usually feature alpha heroes. One of my favorite’s is Gabe Jones from Show No Mercy by Cindy Gerard (BOI series). He ends up with a feisty heroine, which was good. He needed someone to wake him up! Looking forward to checking out this new series.
I don’t want alpha couple it’s exhausting and can get old if they spend most if not entire book in some pissing test kind of thing. Now on the other hand I sometimes tilt my head thinking there are women like this if the heroine is too meek, wimpy or forgettable. Meeting somewhere in the middle I guess when the woman is a bit fiesty and witty. Just read “Hotter than Wildfire” by Lisa Marie Rice and I love Harry Bolt he’s pretty awesome.
I like either the alpha heroine and beta heroine to be with the alpha hero. Doesn’t really matter to me, but sometimes the mood strikes me that I want to read about an alpha heroine.
I read a mix of everything but there is nothing better than kicking back with an alpha hero and a cup of coffee and lose a couple of hours! I do love a strong heroine because I can’t stand weak women! I have read some really good stories with beta heroes and I think they definitely have their place. A good alpha hero should be smart, funny and dedicated. There are lots and lots and lots of alpha heroes I love but Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon has a special place in my heart. I just love him!!
Sounds great!!!!
I have been seeing this one all over the blogs! It looks like my kind of book. I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy. Thanks for the giveaway.
Sounds really good. And it really depends on the story.
I don’t really care about the alphaness of the characters! I just want an engaging, well-written story to lose myself in for a few hours.
well said, Karen 🙂 Engaging and well-written really is the bottom line in the end!
Happy release Day to Elle. I’ve always enjoyed your erotic romances and look forward to reading your new romantic suspense series.
thanks cyclops! (what a name lol) I love release days!
Think I’m too late to enter but I have to say that, Yes, I love my Alpha’s and when you throw in an alpha hero and heroin I love to see the sparks fly. I am going to have to go with my fav’s from a book I just read and that’s Savage Awakening by J.D. Tyler. Two alpha characters and it was a great read
