Football pro Mick Riley is an all-star, both on the field and in the bedroom. But a sexy, determinedly single mom just might be the one to throw him off his game…
For years Mick has been taking full advantage of the life available to a pro athlete: fame, fortune, and a different girl in every city. But when he meets and beds confident, beautiful event planner Tara Lincoln, he wants much more than the typical one-night stand. Too bad Tara’s not interested in getting to know football’s most notorious playboy any better.
As the single mother of a teenage son, the last thing Tara needs is the jet-set lifestyle of Mick Riley; even though their steamy and passionate one-night stand was unforgettable. Tara’s life is complicated enough without being thrust into the spotlight as Mick’s latest girl du jour. Tara played the game of love once and lost big, and she doesn’t intend to put herself out there again, especially with a heartbreaker like Mick.
But when Mick sets his mind to win, nothing will stop him. And he has the perfect play in mind.

It’s always a little daunting—and a lot of fun—to start a new series. There’s a comfort factor in having books release in an existing series. Old friends, those characters you and your readers are familiar with, and the excitement of a secondary character finally getting to star in his or her story.
But a new series is the great unknown. For a writer it’s the opportunity to start fresh with new characters. And if you’ve been dealing with an ongoing series and a multiple character arc, then this is like the dawn of time—a Garden of Eden, a new beginning. Okay, I might be exaggerating just a wee bit, but I’m a writer. I live for hyperbole.
I’ve been writing my Wild Riders series since 2006. And now it’s 2011. That’s five years, and a really long time to live with the same characters. Don’t get me wrong—I loved every single one of those characters. Always will. The Wild Riders series has been one of my favorite series to write. But now I’ve had the opportunity to start a new series, and to say I’m excited? Understatement.
And to start a sports series? I can’t say Wheeee!!!! loud enough. I love sports. I grew up in a sports household, with football and baseball and hockey the favorites. I was born and raised in St. Louis, which meant Cardinals baseball and football (before the Cardinals football team moved to Arizona-pbbbbbbbbbt!!!), and Blues hockey. NO matter what month of the year, there was always sports on the television or radio (Yes, radio). My dad would often be watching baseball on television and listening to football on the radio, or vice versa. We were immersed in the sports culture. I went to a Catholic grade school, and when the Cardinals baseball team were in the World Series in 1968 (Yes, I’m that old), the nuns wheeled black and white televisions into the classrooms so we could watch the day games. Hey, the nuns lived for baseball too!
My Play-by-Play series is my chance to bring my love for sports and romance together. The first book, THE PERFECT PLAY, is about Mick Riley, star quarterback of the San Francisco Sabers football team. Mick has it all—great looks, talent, and any woman he wants. Until he meets event planner Tara Lincoln, who wants nothing to do with him. Tara’s hands are full trying to make a success of her business while juggling duties as a single mom to a teenage boy. She has no time in her life for a hotshot playboy like Mick. But Mick thinks Tara is just about the most perfect woman he’s ever met, because she’s not falling over herself to be around him. And despite her misgivings, Tara can’t help but be attracted to Mick, because when he sets his mind to getting something, he’s a force to be reckoned with.
I hope you enjoy THE PERFECT PLAY. I’m offering up a $20 Amazon Gift Certificate to one winner. Contest is open internationally (will work out prize if international winner). Tell me if you love sports, and if you do, what’s your favorite? If you don’t love sports, what do you do when all the sports are on television? Do you shop, knit, read, or watch something else on TV?

Many thanks to Jaci for joining us today!

Actually, the only sport I like is the professional Ice Figure Skating. However lately, since last year after I watch the football superbowl, I’ve been watching the games up until the last two standing for this year superbowl. So I guess in some way, since cheering for my state team, I’ve been watching football since LOL ! But if I don’t like the two team playing that day, I sit and read books 🙂
I like a few sports. I watch horse racing, I once got to ride a horse that ran the kentucky derby. I usually just read during the rest.

I occasionally will watch some sports but only as a social event…never if I am home by myself. I prefer to get out and shop or go to a restaurant since they are generally a lot more empty than normal!
Happy Release Day, Jaci!! I can’t wait to read Mick’s story! I’m not a huge sports lover ~~ basketball is the one that I really get into. But, oh, I DO love to watch all those lovely male bods running around on screen!! I can read, play on the internet, do alot of things w/ sports in the background. Doesn’t bother me a bit ~~ and I just look up to catch what ‘s going on here and there!!
I am a big baseball fan and watch way too many games during the season. I enjoy American football, also. Rooting for Aaron Rodgers this Sunday!
The Perfect Play sounds soooo good!!!
The only sports I like to watch is ice skating. When sports are on tv I watch something else or read. Please enter me in contest. Tore923@aol.com
I grew up playing sports but I don’t LOVE any. The only exception would be my alma mater’s football team. Growing up in Oklahoma, OU football is practically a religion. I always try to watch a game if it is on. It is also one of the few things that can make me rowdy. The foul language flies when I watch a game. Not really proud of that! LOL
Good luck with the new release Jaci! Boomer Sooner!

Happy release day, Jaci! I watch sports as a way of hanging out with my husband, but I don’t LOVE them, unless it’s figure skating. I do love pairs and ladies’ figure skating 😉 Not quite the same as football, but exciting all the same!
Congratulations on your new release! I read when my husband and son are watching sports.
I don’t know if I’d say I LOVE sports, but I DO enjoy them. I enjoy watching figure skating on television and at live events. I play competitive badminton five nights per week, so I enjoy watching Olympic badminton (but it is, unfortunately, not a popular sport, so I must tape it at something like 3 am IF it is televised). I’m glued to the set watching the World Junior Hockey or certain NHL (Stanley Cup) games too. Every so often I get hooked on a tennis match or two as well….
I watch Houston Rockets basketball, but if I am not, I am working out.
I’m with Jaci…football, baseball and hockey are the sports that I love to watch. I also love to watch my boys play football, baseball, basketball and soccer. Everyone in our household is a sports fanatic!
Congratulations on your release. I read or work out and have never been interested in watching sports.
Not too much of a sports fan except for when my city’s professional basketball team goes for the title. I usually keep an ‘ear’ open – I can’t watch because I’m so afraid of putting a jenks on them. When sports are on in my house I usually have my head buried in a book!
I’m not a big sports fan. I like romance books that have sports themes, that’s about it! Usually when sports are on (and hubby is watching them), I take that opportunity to write, read, watch something on the DVR in the other room, go for a walk by myself…I find something to do with that time 🙂
I am not a big sports fan but do enjoy sports themed romances..probably the hunky men in them:-). The only sports I watch are my grandchildrens’ games. I would rather read while everyone is watching the BIG GAME.
I’m not a HUGE sports fan, though I do enjoy watching soccer and ice hockey! If I’m stuck in the house on a sports day, I may watch some of it, then I’ll bake or read or drink cheap wine….
I can’t wait to read this! Squee.
i like most sports, but baseball is the only one i will really watch on tv. the rest i will only watch if i’m actually at the stadium.
krisgils33@yahoo.com
I’m not a big sports fan. Thankfully neither is Dh, so we usually just watch something else on the TV. BUT on holidays and such if we are friends/family houses and they are watching sports, I’ll usually find something else to do, be it crafting or reading.
I love watching basketball. Go Lakers!
i love football so much, and i love watching the games too. but i do love to read to alot of books.
cathyqt85@hotmail.com
The only thing I really watch sport wise is NASCAR… otherwise I spend my time reading… I find reading about sports in romances alot more interesting than the actual sports on TV! 😉
I love love love boxing & mma.
I do like other sports but these are the only ones I go out of my way to find a fight on tv. I get so into a fight that I scream, I jump up & down and I hoop & holler at the tv and my children think I’m crazy.
Congrats on your release!
I am a huge sports fan. My favorite is hockey. My favorite team is the NJ Devils. Not having a great year 😦 My family and I went to St.Louis to watch the Blues play Detroit. I love football! I watch when ever I am able. I never tell people who my favorite team is cause they are not well liked by most fans. Tell me Jaci can you guess who they are?? Ever since I saw the cover I was hooked. I just knew it would be a keeper. My mom once asked me how do you pick your books? Do you even read the synopsis? So I told her my secret. I buy the books with the covers that catch my attention. If it looks good then I turn it over to see what the storyline is. And because of this I have bought books out of sequence
Hey Jaci! I love your books! This one was great! I can’t wait for the next one. My favorite sports are football and nascar, I love baseball if I am in the statium never cared to watch it on the tv. Hockey is great too in person up on the glass! But even that runs second to a great book. I have a new nook and kindle pc so I always have one infont of me. Now I am in the process of turning all my hard copies into ebooks! Thanks for the new series as I don’t like too many contemorarys but you did a fab job, it was great!
Happy Release Day Jaci! I can’t wait to read this book!
I love my cowboys and am a HUGE Rodeo fan. That is my sport of choice. However I do love hockey and cycling.
When any of them are on tv, I try to watch while doing something else. 🙂
I love love love sports! Fav is football!! This book looks so ridiculously hot…I can’t wait to read it!
Baseball is my sport of choice. Am a big Dodger fan!
Would love to us the g.c. to buy this book!
I’m not a sports watching person, it just bores me so I just read! Congrats on the release!
Happy Release Day! I’ve been waiting for “The Perfect Play” myself, for Jed Hill if nothing else. 😉 Great cover to start a series!
Although I’m a big fan of the Olympics, I don’t really follow any other sports. Sure, I have a passing interest in the World Series and such if the local team is playing, but that’s about it. For example, I love going out on Super Bowl sunday because most people will not be driving and such (they’ll be watching the game somewhere).
I LOVE FOOTBALL! College football is the best, but I watch NFL, too. You can bet I’ll be glued to the TV for the Super Bowl…and not just for the commercials. I follow lots of other sports, too. ESPN.com is among my favorite non-book websites.
Love to play and love to watch. My favorites to watch are football and baseball. But I give any sport a chance when I want to play though I am not really all that good.
HI Jaci,
Congrats on the new book and series!! I love sports & sports themed romance books. My favorite sports are Baseball & Football. I actually miss football when its not on, since I really enjoy watching on Sundays and eating yummy snacks. The Superbowl should be fun this weekend and hopefully, they get the CBA worked out in time for next season. Then, NCAA basketball and into baseball season!! I also enjoy – NASCAR, Tennis, Olympics, & College Football. Basically, I’m a sports junkie!!
I don’t like sports except for the olympics if they are on t.v. I always have something on my tivo to watch thank goodness.
I like sports and I don’t like sports. It’s a love hate relationship, really 🙂 I do like watching the Super Bowl, though, if just to watch the funny-awesome commercials 😉
Congrats on your new release! It’s on my to-buy list for the next time I go to the bookstore– I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy! Hot, hot, HOT cover!! 8)
Happy Release Day, Jaci. I don’t play, but I love hockey and baseball. I’m also a fan of the Olympic sports like gymnastics.
love sports…congrats on the new series 🙂
Love football, especially my Saints and LSU Tigers. In fact I love the new cover cause I Jeremy Shockeys face on that body in my mind. Ahhhhhhh. GEAUX SAINTS
I love watching sports on tv. My favorite is baseball. My team is the Seattle Mariners.
Can’t wait to read this new series!
The men in my life are big into cycling, motocross and Nascar, so I usually poke my head in while they are watching. Not an avid fan, so usually you can find me squirred away reading a great story.
I love sports! Football is my favorite, followed closely by hockey. Or any other sport where there are tight uniforms! LOL
This cover ROCKS! YUMMMMMMM…….. 🙂
Congratulations on the new release, Jaci! I’m really looking forward to it!
I’m not a rabid sports fan but I do always religiously watch the World Cup, tennis grand slams, Olympics, and any other major sporting events. I don’t watch every week but I get really excited when these big ones come up! 🙂
I have been drooling over that cover for months, love Jed Hill!
I love LOVE baseball, Boston Red Sox all the way! Never miss a game if I can help it, on TV.
All the best for your release!
Whether sports is on or not, I do what I usually do…which is read. Lol. I don’t watch much tv, sadly.
I’m not into sports, but I’m always happy to read while anything is on TV! 🙂
I’m not the biggest sports fan, but I do enjoy extreme sports like skateboarding and biking aerials in summer and snowboarding in winter. Those athletes are crazy cool.
Congrats Jaci!
I loved your Wild Riders series, and hated for it to end, but having learned about your Play by Play series totally made up for it!
I am a big football fan, and lately have been into Rugby….I mean seriously those guys are hot!
I’ve been on a sports hero reading binge lately so The Perfect Play is top spot on my wish list.
i love rugby! i love the players and i love the game… there is a great saying it goes: “ruck me, maul me, make me scrum” and i think that says it all, have you found any books that are about rugby?
I’ll watch any sport and enjoy it as long as it’s not on TV. When it is on TV I read a book. I’m really excited about your new series as I’m a big fan of yours.
I am not a huge sports fan. I dont actively seek them out to watch. But if they are on TV and I am familiar with the teams I will check out parts of the game. I really just get bored watching a whole game on TV.
I’m not a sports fan…never have been, never will be and I’m lucky in the fact that I live alone and don’t have to share my TV with a sports nut! LOL However, if I was stuck in that situation, I would probably go off in a corner and read! Thanks for the fun giveaway!
[…] You can find me at Novel Thoughts […]
I’m not a big sports fan but I do like a good basketball game at times if it’s the Knicks playing.
I am a knitter and computer surfer when the hubby is deep into the games.
I like to watch sports with my husband but I wouldnt really say I’m a fan.
I’m not much of a sports fan unless you count poker on TV. My boss is in the poker hall of fame and I sometimes watch tournaments when they are on. Otherwise, I crochet, knit, read, or watch a DVD.
I never was into sports, and I’m still not watching. Ok lets be honest, if there’s a hot guy in action I do watch for a bit.
But I enjoy reading romances with Hero’s that are athletes, very much so. Is it their fit form that appeals to me, even on paper, maybe.
A guy focussed on doing what he loves is just really attractive, even if it’s playing sports.
If there’s nothing on the telly I just read a romance. Maybe even a sports romance, cause yeah those are nice.
HI Everyone!
I wanted to drop by and thank Novel Thoughts for letting me guest here.
Thanks for all your responses. It’s great reading who’s a sports fan and what your favorite sports are (go Sooners!), and who isn’t, and what you do with your time when sports are on. Thanks for weighing in, and thanks for your excitement about The Perfect Play!
Oh and I love figure skating, too! It’s one of my favorite sports in the Winter Olympics!
I love watching sports. Basketball is my favorite. Your book sounds amazing. Love that sexy cover.
I have grown to enjoy football, but sometimes i will read while the game is on 🙂
Ktalley28@gmail.com
I love watching sports. The biggest is football, so I’m sad that the last game of the season is this Sunday.
I also love watching hockey and baseball. I’ll watch basketball if there really is nothing else on TV.
My favorite sport to watch is football. I like to play soccer but I don’t enjoy watching as much. I like baseball but only in person. Not really a basketball fan much.
I love hockey. I am a huge Rangers fan and watch it whenver its on tv and we also go to the games. For some reason – hockey players are hot – and alot of fun to watch…I loved reading the Blades series by Deidre Martin.
I have my nose in a book when sports are on
Hi Jaci
Love to watch most sports but I play tennis so that’s my fave. Can’t wait to read Perfect Play. Your writing is fab and an athlete story is icing on the cake.
I love football! I can tolerate college football and basketball. I can not. stand. baseball. If I don’t like what it on I’m usually reading!
I do love sports, especially football. We have family gatherings for the times our favorite team is on TV.
I also enjoy reading romances that feature sports heroes. Your book sounds like just the right book for me! I kinda like the cover, too! 😉

I love sports, basketball, hockey, baseball (but only if its a live game because it’s rather boring on TV) and as of lately football.
I love playing softball and watching football.
I have to admit that the only sport I love to watch is hockey. BUT my boyfriend is a HUGE sports nut, and I usually end up watching many sports games with him – well he watches, and I work on my needlepoint haha!
I love all sports. My favorites would be: Football, Racing, and Tennis.
My whole family enjoys watching and going to sports events.
My husband is not into Tennis:)
One of the only sports I don’t enjoy is football. However, with that cover, I may start to pay a bit more attention. Regardless, I definitely look forward to reading this. I like soccer, basketball, baseball, and hockey, as well as the lesser known ones.
I am not that much into sports- and neither is my hubby. We DO watch the Superbowl when it comes on and watch the occassional UFC fight, which I LOVE! Who knows–I may have to tune into Sunday Night Football after reading your new book, Jaci. 🙂
I am not the biggest sports fan. They really bore. The only sport that I can actually watch is soccer. Normally when everyone is watching some game that is on I go play on the computer or read a book. If I am forced by the boyfriend to watch I usually fall asleep. I just was never able to get into sports.
Actually I just remembered, I do enjoy watching the Olympics when they are on.
This book looks really good and I am totally digging that cover.
iqb99@yahoo.com
I’m not a great sports fan but I do enjoy going to a live hockey game, nothing more exciting.
I am not a sports person and neither is my husband so we mesh well 🙂 usually when he watches the occasional race or baseball game, I read.
I love watching sports. My favorites are soccer, basketball, and baseball. I’m just starting to get into football and hockey.
I am not really a sports person. Usually when my husband watches sports, I tend to read.
Although, if I had to choose I would go with hockey.
No!!!! I don’t watch sports. I bake, cook, sew, read….of course… or ay with my beautiful new grandbaby when her.daddy is here watching sports.
I love to watch sport! My whole family is crazy about motorsports like Formula One or motorbike championships as well as soccer, hockey and handball (that’s a very popular sport here in Germany, similar to soccer just played with your hands).
I love football but I will still read during the commercials. 🙂
I love to watch snow sports and my favorite is ski jumping 🙂 but honestly I’m not a fan of other sport arts and would rather read a good book…
congrats on your release!!
I grew up with four brothers and sports was always on the television. I like football but LOVE baseball. I’ll read a book with the game on in the backround.
My favorite sport to watch is college basketball, and I enjoy reading.
I don’t watch sports. I usually read when sports are on. I do however watch the Superbowl and the World Series when they are on.
Congrats on the release of The Perfect Play!
I don’t follow any teams but I do enjoy watching football, soccer and thoroughbred racing.
I grew up watching hockey, football and baseball although I never could get into basketball. During football season while I was growing up, my stepdad and I always watched at least one game together on Sundays. When I met my husband, I had to laugh because I knew far more about sports than he did, but now he’s totally gotten the football bug, especially since we watch them on Tivo and zip through the commercials.
Do not really watch sports. Usually read or nap when others are watching sports on tv.
I played softball and basketball throughout school and enjoy playing sports, but am not one for watching sports. I like the super bowl, but really I pay more attention the the commercials than to the actual game. I tend to like my reality t.v. a little more but I love to read about sports. I just recently read Susan Elizabeths It Had to Be you and I was so hooked to the football game towards the end of the book I was litereally on the edge of my seat
I’m not a big sports fan but I do like to watch the Olympics. I usually like to watch the ice skating and gymnastics. Most of the time I read when sports are on tv.
Congrats on the release of The Perfect Play. It sounds great and the cover is so gorgeous! 🙂
