Lindsey Baker knows Clay Talbot’s dirty little secret—he likes to watch, he likes to share, and he likes his sex a little on the rough side. So does she. Six years ago he was quick to brush her off for being too young and inexperienced. Now she’s back in small-town Grayson, Texas, determined to show Clay she’s all grown up and knows exactly what she wants—him.
Clay doesn’t play in his own backyard. His dark cravings are better fed at Silver House, a private fetish club where his identity is protected and his privacy respected. And where the women know the score. But Lindsey Baker pushes all the right buttons and he soon finds himself torn between keeping her at the edge of his world and dragging her into it.
Saddle up for a smokin’-hot turn between two cowboys who like a little twist with their ride.

So, you’d expect characters in an erotic romance to misbehave, especially those partaking of a little (or a lot) BDSM action. After all they love the punishment administered for their naughty actions. But I’m talking about those characters who won’t cooperate with you as their creator. They do things you don’t expect, sometimes the exact opposite that you want them to, which can take the story in directions you never dreamed or intended. Suddenly you’re confused and faced with a difficult decision. Do you press that magic button—I’m talking about the backspace key, couldn’t survive without it—and make the unplanned behavior go away, pretend it never happened, and start all over? Or do you turn a blind eye to the errant whims of your character and let him or her have their way?
The heroine in my new release from Ellora’s Cave, Saddle Broke, surprised me more than once over the course of the book. Lindsey had a mind of her own—as Clay quickly discovered—and for the most part her instincts were spot on. She knew better than I what she wanted and how to get it. I simply had to trust her enough to show me where we were headed and why. I suppose I should thank Lindsey for her willful determination. Though, knowing her as I now do, she probably would prefer a good spanking.
What I’d like to know is, as a reader, do you like a headstrong heroine? Or a submissive one? A mixture of the two? Leave a comment for a chance to win a copy of Saddle Broke. I’ll announce the winner tomorrow at noon.
Have a great week!

Ohh I love the Strong heroines, as long as they don’t think they KNOW everything…………………..
sounds like a great read.
hugs,
WendyK
I think it takes a very strong woman to submit so I would say a combination of the two. Your cover looks intriguing – two guys with her but the blurb doesn’t say anything about the role the second guy plays. I know Clay likes to watch and share, but is this M/F/M or M/F?
I like a mixture of the two – someone who knows to back down and can open up and depend on her man while at the same time standing up for herself and getting the job done without help or reliance on others
congrats!
Hey Darah! You know I like my heroines strong, but sometimes a lady has no choice but to submit to the hero’s needs 😉
Hi Wendy. Yes I like a little vulnerability in my strong heroines, too. I makes them more human and easier to relate to.
Good point, Lisa. Thanks for asking about Evan. Saddle Broke has a m/f/m menage element. Evan is the third male and present from the very beginning, and helps Lindsey in her efforts to convince Clay that Lindsey truly understands the world she’s entering.
Well said, Becky. And I think you’ve described Lindsey perfectly. She wants Clay but knows exactly when it’s time to step back. LOL Drives Clay crazy.
I like a heroine that has some spunk… she does not have to be ultra headstrong but a nice balance… 😀
Hi Colleen! I know what you mean. I don’t like a heroine who’s demanding to the point of being a brat.
Fun post! I like headstrong heroines – for me they’re usually more fun to read and write. Character wrangling is definitely something I’ve struggled with too, but you’re right, I think the story is better for it in the end.
No need to enter me in the contest. SB was great! 🙂
I have to say a mix, because it takes someone strong to submit. I look forward to reading your new release, thanks for the intro to it.
Thank you, Angela. I hope you enjoy Saddle Broke and find Lindsey has just the right mix to tame Clay.
Hi, Darah! Mainly I like a smart heroine–strong and independent are great, but not to the exclusion of smarts and knowing when to lean or to call uncle 😉 What I can’t stand is a heroine who takes being strong or independent so far that she’s clearly got an axe to grind, and it blinds her to safety or being wise. That said, sounds like Lindsey knows her own mind–gotta love that!
Hi Fedora! Yep, there’s nothing more annoying than a heroine who doesn’t know when to shut up and listen to reason. Lindsey is definitely determined to show Clay she’s strong, but she knows when to stop pushing and let him make up his own mind.
Oh, hey, there’s L. and Cari! Hi, I didn’t see you guys!
L., you’re right, and a good hero knows how to tame a strong woman–with a firm yet gentle hand.
LOL I like that, Cari…character wrangling. Thanks for dropping in.
I love strong heroines, but have to admit that my stories are hero-driven. I write for Harlequin Intrigue where they want women-in-jeopardy stories. I find it very hard to write a strong heroine who’s constantly in jeopardy. I love head-strong when they’re right, but willing to learn from their mistakes.
Can’t wait to have time to read your book!
~~Angi
I like a mixture of the two.
Both totally work for me, depends on the story. I love a heroine who stands up for herself, with a strong spirit, but not necessarily a kick ass girl. For a great storyline written with a perfect balance between cherish and command, a submissive woman in the bedroom can be a total treat to read.
Hi Estella! Good luck in the contest!
Have to say I love a mixture of the two!
I like a mixture of the two- I hate it when the heroine acts like a doormat or if she’s too bossy and I have to say I don’t like a hero that is so bossy all the time in all aspects- even a super alpha hero doesn’t need to be super bossy 24/7.
I read an erotic book a few weeks ago that I really didn’t enjoy because I felt the heroine was such a doormat and the hero was a total jerk to her in my opinion so balance is very important in the relationship between the hero and heroine.
LOL I agree Cathy. As for kick ass heroines, I have a hard time relating to them so I usually don’t write them. I prefer a strong alpha male who has all the kick ass skills. 😉
Hi Amanda and Moran.
LOL Lindsey is certainly sassy but she asks for everything she gets, which is Clay’s conflict. He doesn’t think she can handle him. It’s up to her to show him him she’s no wilting flower.
Hey Angi! Good to see you, gf. Can’t wait for September to see how Jane deals with all the tough situations she’s thrown into in Hill Country Holdup! Just what I know of her she’s got the right stuff. Thanks for dropping by.
I LOVE headstrong submissive women! The best of both worlds! Reminds me of m…..er…… 😀
Definitely would love to read this book!
LOL Thanks Natasha!
I’m shutting down for the night. LOL My family is hungry or I’d chat all night.
Thank you for all for chatting with me and a special thanks to RR@H Novel Thoughts and Book Talk for letting me guest blog today!
Have a great week!
Darah
I love hearing about the creative process, Darah, thanks for sharing!
Oh, strong women, for sure!!! But I think I like strong women who submit. Is that a cliche, or my fantasy? I’ll never tell …..
Tasha — you make me laugh!
Mad, thanks for having Darah!
@Bella – then my job is done 😀
Hi Darah, I prefer a strong heroine, but I also agree that being strong means being able to submit at the right time. Of course, that’s not necessarily the time the hero wants her too!
I like a strong woman who asks for, no demands & gets what she wants!
Loved the excerpt !!
For me it depends on the story. I am a voracious reader sometimes tearing through as many as 50 books a month (Yeah I know. I should belong to RRA…Romance Readers Annony 🙂 I don’t dig a beta male. I want my men strong, Alpha and sometimes a bit gruff. I like my heroines strong and independant but I don’t want to read about a woman who has more cohones than most of the men I know. If she is a super strong character she MUST have a tender side and be able to show it. 🙂 Great post Darah!!
LOL Bella, too funny. Glad you could drop in.
Hi Lisa! No, it wouldn’t be any fun if the heroine submitted in a timely manner. 😉
Thanks Laurie! You’re so sweet!
Everyone is entered in the drawing for Saddle Broke. Almost time to draw.
this sounds good.to answer the question I like a mixture of the two.
Hi Elaing8, I have you in the drawing. Here we go!
The winner is…………Moran!
Congratulations Moran! If you would please email me at darah [at] darahlace [dot] com, I’ll forward a copy of Saddle Broke.
Thanks again RR@H and to all who posted. I enjoyed spending the day with you!
Darah
Congrats Moran! 😀
I just finished this and loved it, so totally HOT!
Do not enter me, but I like a heroine who is a mixture, one who is kicka** but submissive in the bedroom. Probably because I love Dominant heros. So this book totally worked for me. 🙂 Thanks
Ooohh, Kris, I’m so glad you liked Lindsey and Saddle Broke. Thanks bunches for saying so.
