Happy Friday! 🙂 St. Martin’s Press has generously offered me three copies of THE DEVIL’S QUEEN by Jeanne Kalogridis to do a giveaway here on the blog. Contest will run from today, July 31st until Monday, August 10th. Winners will be chosen on Tuesday, August 11th and will have 48 hours to email me their info to get book sent out. Easy to enter for a chance to win one. Just tell me what you’ve read lately that I must get my hands on. 😉
From Jeanne Kalogridis, the bestselling author ofI, Mona Lisa and The Borgia Bride, comes a new novel that tells the passionate story of a queen who loved not wisely . . . but all too well.
Confidante of Nostradamus, scheming mother-in-law to Mary, Queen of Scots, and architect of the bloody St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre, Catherine de Medici is one of the most maligned monarchs in history. In her latest historical fiction, Jeanne Kalogridis tells Catherine’s story—that of a tender young girl, destined to be a pawn in Machiavellian games.
Born into one of Florence’s most powerful families, Catherine was soon left a fabulously rich heiress by the early deaths of her parents. Violent conflict rent the city state and she found herself imprisoned and threatened by her family’s enemies before finally being released and married off to the handsome Prince Henry of France.
Overshadowed by her husband’s mistress, the gorgeous, conniving Diane de Poitiers, and unable to bear children, Catherine resorted to the dark arts of sorcery to win Henry’s love and enhance her fertility—for which she would pay a price. Against the lavish and decadent backdrop of the French court, and Catherine’s blood-soaked visions of the future, Kalogridis reveals the great love and desire Catherine bore for her husband, Henry, and her stark determination to keep her sons on the throne.
There’s also a freebie e-book you can check out that’s connected to THE DEVIL’S QUEEN, titled BOOK OF BLACK MAGIC: THE DEVIL’S QUEEN GRIMOIRE.

I just finished reading After Dark with is the 3rd book in the Vamps Series. I really liked it, but the 1st and 2nd ones are better.
I’m not sure how much you’re into futuristic novels, but considering this trilogy (at least, I *think* it’s a trilogy – there may be more to come) also involves a romantic subplot and characters I absolutely *loved*, it’s high on my recommend list: Kriston Landon’s THE HIDDEN WORLDS, THE COLD MINDS, and THE DARK REACHES. I was so entranced by these books, it was near torture having to wait for the library and Amazon deliveries of books two and three (respectively).
It seems like not quite the norm for your blog, but I just finished “His Majesty’s Dragon” by Naomi Novik and LOVED it– I can’t wait to read the rest of the series! It’s an alternate history, set during Regency times, where dragons are employed in the Napoleonic Wars, much like air ships. It’s more adventure than it is romance, but the writing it terrific.
I’ve been hearing good things about “The Devil’s Queen,” and Jeanne Kalogridis’ previous books, too.
You must read Nothing but Ghosts by Beth Kephart. It’s stunning.
I really enjoyed The Last Queen by C.W. Gortner about Juana la Loca; and for a fun historical romance you should try Georgette Heyer, esp. These Old Shades. Thanks for this great giveaway opportunity.
BTW I just added this wonderful blog to my Google Reader.
I’m currently reading the latest Julia Quinn, looking forward to reading the other queen by gregory… but this book that you are giving away… I might have to get even if I don’t win a copy.
The Time Traveler’s Wife is a must read. The first time I read it was a couple of years ago, and my copy is dog-eared. I’ve never read anything like it. I’ve also never cried so hard while reading a book. I really can’t say enough about this book.
Recently I read Gena Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld series and LOVED it. Also, Karin Tabke’s Blood Sword books.
I recently read Red Kiss by Deidre Knight. It was good.
I just finished (and reviewed) The Physick book of Deliverance Dane. A good read (if flawed) – very enjoyable.
I’d love to enter this giveaway! Thank you.
I just finished reading Chalice by Robin Mckinley and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys romantic fantasy.
Great giveaway! Thank you! I recently read a cute novel called Margherita Dolce Vita by Stefano Benni. I loved it. Very funny, satirical, clever…just really good.
Just finished THE BRIDE’S FAREWELL by Meg Rosoff and really enjoyed it. I highly recommend it – a quick read but a good story. Thanks for hosting this giveaway. Looks like a book I would really like to read.
I just read A Hint of Wicked by Jennifer Haymore. A really good book.
I’ve also read A Wolf in Wolf’s Clothing by Deborah MacGillivray. I loved it.
I just finished Mistress of Pleasure by Delilah Marvelle and ordered her next one Lord of Pleasure. I really enjoyed it.
