Cursed by God, hunted by demons, desired by Cain and Abel… All in a day’s work.
For Evangeline Hollis, a long-ago fling with a bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks just became a disaster of biblical proportions. One night with a leather-clad man of mystery has led to a divine punishment: the Mark of Cain.
Thrust into a world where sinners are drafted to kill demons, Eve knows her learning curve must be short. A longtime agnostic, she begrudgingly maneuvers through a celestial bureaucracy where she is a valuable but ill-treated pawn. She’s also become the latest point of contention in the oldest case of sibling rivalry in history…
But she’ll worry about all that later. Right now she’s more concerned with learning to kill while staying alive. And saving the soul she’d never quite believed she had.
A Day in the Life
Here it is, five o’clock in the evening. My kids are asking about dinner and for the most part, the day is done. I’ve been a full-time writer for going on five years now. I love it. I think it’s the best job in the world… for me. (your mileage may vary *g*) Some days are leisurely. I can wake up late, hang out in my pjs, take a nap if I want, take as long a lunch as I want, watch a movie. Some days are just insane. If I’m under deadline, sometimes I’ll go a week or more with only a few hours of sleep at night and non-stop writing all day. Today was a middle of the road day. Busy, but not completely nuts.
7:30 am — get out of bed
7:40-8:25 — herd young children around the house to get them dressed, fed, hair brushed, and backpacks ready.
8:30 — drop them off at school
8:40-2:45 — house is quiet without kids and I get to work on 5K+ email inbox:
· Romantic Times Convention bookseller having trouble getting EVE OF DARKNESS in for the Sat. book signing, because it doesn’t release until the following Tuesday (route to editor)
· Email web designer about trouble with newsletter program not culling bounce emails
· Email with former agent about books/subsidiary rights
· Send last minute information for group newsletter going out today
· update a group site I maintain with fellow writer’s new cover art
· Assist new BravaAuthors.com webmistress with taking over the website duties from former webmistress
· Finally eat something at noon when stomach growls about not having breakfast
· Write and send requested cover quote (due by tomorrow – book was awesome!)
· Try and help a friend with an issue she’s having with her latest cover art
· Write new scene in latest book
· Put away new coverflats that arrived last night, but leave one out to drool over
· Write copy for spring newsletter
· Edit newly written scene in latest book and set up next one
· Laugh over email from another writer friend asking if I’ve cloned myself since she’s seeing Marked series promo everywhere and can’t figure out how I have time to do it.
2:45-3:15 — harness up the dog and take her out for a walk to the school to pick up the kids (must have exercise)
3:15 — make a protein shake with banana (yummy)
3:25-5:00 — see new pressing emails that arrived while I was walking kids/dog
· RWA chapter I was once president of has tax questions
· Another request for group newsletter info
· Receive notice that one of my web domains is expiring (go and pay for another 5 years)
· Receive erroneous bill (emailed and cleared up)
· Still trying to vet newsletter copy
5-5:30 — write this blog post
5:30 — new email comes in about upcoming blog interview (has many questions, will answer tomorrow)
5:45 — going to pick up Taco Bell, since kids have been asking for days and I want to write instead of cook J
7:30-9 pm — herd kids through homework, bathing/showering, and getting to bed on time
9 pm-2 am — write new scenes in latest book
I’m sitting here now wondering where the day went. Didn’t I just roll out of bed a couple of hours ago? Yikes.
But I’m smiling anyway. Because I love my job (even though I did have to lose the pjs to walk the dog…)

Ohh Wow!!! And I thought my day was rough! That’s a lot going on.

I agree with Wendy……..wow that is a BUSY day!!!
I was at work all day, and my day wasn’t that full 🙂
Love the cover btw
That sounds like a fantastic day!!
I can’t wait to read this series!
Thanks for the great “In the day of” post 😀
Hi All! *waving*
I actually ended up mailing back the questionnaire and remembering to update the sidebars of two other blogs I maintain. (forgot about it being the end of the month until after dinner)
Today should be an easier day, though. (I hope) I plan to do nothing but write all day. 🙂
What are you doing today?
blodeuedd — I’m glad you like the cover!
That is definitely a crazy day! at least you get some exercise! 🙂
Reading all you did just wore me out!
Wow Busy Busy Bee… That is alot to do! Smiles are good… 😀
LOL ohh I don’t think I could do it. Today I worked on business newsletters, looking for health insurance for us, I’ve got an essay to rewrite and entries to get done, and RALPHs for the business to get printed……
I’m lazy I hate busy days. Plus I’m reading Ramona Richards’ book.
hugs,
WendyK
I always knew a writer’s life was glamorous. LOL
The new book sounds great! I like the “leather-clad man of mystery”. Need to know more about him. 🙂
Wow, sounds like a really busy day! Do you ever have time to relax? 🙂
Oh, wow what a day…you´ve been really busy! 🙂
Wow what a schedule! I’m just glad that it is not mine * Grin *. I have been dying to get my hands of a copy Eve of Darkness. It just sounds so fantastic. Hope you found just a little time to relax during the day.
Wow, Sylvia! Just the reading of it is a bit exhausting 😉 So glad you’ve got the dream job though, and so glad for us that it IS your dream job 🙂 I’d love to just sit and read all day, but there’s an awful lot that has to get done in the meantime… Congrats on the Marked series! You’ve got a lot going on with your different aliases this year–I do wonder that you manage to juggle it all without having cloned yourself!
Wow it’s exhausting just reading it, it must be amazing and tiring to live it. I’m really looking forward to reading this series.
Hi Sylvia, just got thru reading the first chapter excerpt and can’t wait to read this book. I mean you’ve picked David Boreanaz as your inspiration for Caine, which gives me a great visual. Really enjoyed the trailer’s, did you pick the music? And did you write to a soundtrack for this series?
Just reading about your day makes me want to take a nap!
Wow – I’m exhausted just reading that. Wanted to come by and say hi to S.J. Day. 🙂
I enjoyed the post, and the book sounds fantastic! And now that I see David Boreanaz was the inspiration for your hero, it makes it even better! Good luck with the book. I can’t wait to read it!
Good thing you had that protein shake to help you keep going all day long, Syvlia. Yeah, on David Boreanz.
Holy Crap!!! No wonder we have been missing you. I hope you get to relax soon.
The new series is amazing. I was hooked from the summary alone but the more you read the more your sucked in. I want to be Eve. Love it Syl!
What a schedule! *Phew!* Haha, like everyone else, I’m glad it’s not mine 😛
Love the premise of your new book! 😀
Oh my goodness, you do have a busy day. Some of my days tend to run like that minus the writing as I have absolutely no talent like that.
I am really looking forward to the release and I love the cover.
Taking the kids to school in your pajamas? Priceless. 🙂
Eve of Darkness sounds great!
You definitely have a busy schedule. Eve of Darkness sounds good. Great cover.
Popping in to say Hi. I just got my Romantic Times mag and was totally thrilled that you were on the cover.
Leslie – It’s Cain. He’s yummy. 🙂
Marie – I watched Transporter 3 last night. Great stuff!
Cathy – I do have a soundtrack for the Marked books. There’s an abbreviated playlist in the appendix of each book. 🙂
Munk – I’m so glad you’re enjoying the series!
Brandy – I’m thrilled, too. I think they did a great job with it.
Everyone – I’m so glad you’re looking forward to Eve! I hope you enjoy her when the books come out. Just another couple weeks…! I can’t wait! *g*
Oh gosh, I can’t imagine doing all that in a week!!! Know we thank you bunches for your reads!!!! I can’t wait for this series too!
Looks like your days are full. I’m glad you enjoy it because that means we, the readers, get to enjoy your writing.
I always wondered how you did it all! Now I’ve had a glimpse of your life I just wonder how you survive it all!
lol sounds like even though you work at home you sound like the rest of us moms with jobs very busy. And you do it all by yourself with no boss looking over your shoulder and keeping you on task lol.
I would love to win this book. it sounds great
