Department of Justice agent Shadoe Grayson is out to prove she’s no rookie, and eagerly accepts her first undercover assignment at a strip club in New Orleans. Working with the Wild Riders, a government agency of bad boy bikers, her goal is to bring down a corrupt DEA agent. All she has to do now is learn to strip like a pro.
Standing in her way is the arrogant and smokin’ hot Spencer King, her partner and one of the Wild Riders. Spence thinks she looks more like a schoolteacher than a stripper, and doubts her ability to do the job. But when he mockingly challenges Shadoe to strip just for him, he finds out there’s more to the surprisingly sexy agent than by-the-book rules and Government Issue pantsuits.
Now Spencer has to resist his baser instincts while Shadoe learns that taking off your clothes doesn’t always equal losing control…
There’s just something about series books that I love. Now don’t get me wrong, because I do enjoy reading a stand alone single title just fine. But my favorite kinds of books are the ones that are ongoing. I’ve been a fan of books that are part of a series for many years now. I think it began when Nora Roberts started with her trilogies (like her Chesapeake series) with all those extra characters made me want them to have their own story too. And I just couldn’t wait!
There’s a certain continuity that goes with a series, when you get to know these characters from one book to the next. They start to feel like family to you. And that’s probably why nearly every book I’ve written has been part of a series. I didn’t mean for it to happen that way, but it did. The very first book I published ended up part of a three book series, even though I didn’t plan it out that way. And then I did another series, and another, and another. I realized as I wrote a book, my secondary characters took on a life of their own, and I began to wonder what their story was. And then I wanted to write about them.
I imagine a lot of writers do this, which is why there are so many series books out there. We writers just can’t leave those characters untouched, you know. Or at least this writer can’t. I’m just too curious about who those secondary characters are. And in each book, if a secondary character becomes more prominent, he or she starts knocking on the door of my mind demanding his or her turn next.
My Wild Riders series with Berkley Heat is very much like that. These are alpha characters—both the women and the men. They’re demanding and they want attention. The idea of not writing a story for each and every one of them is unthinkable. Hopefully my editor will see it that way too and will let me write a story for each character.
As readers, do you develop a curiosity about secondary characters in stories you read, and then wonder when or if they’re going to get their turn as the hero and heroine in their own book? Or do you prefer single, stand alone books?

*****Leave a comment for the chance to win a copy of RIDING WILD, book #1 in Jaci’s Wild Riders series. Five names will be picked! Good Luck!

He’s a Harley-riding ex-thief working undercover for the government. She’s a gun-toting ex-socialite hired to protect a valuable museum exhibit. But in her attempt to stop a heist, she never anticipated having her breath and her heart stolen…
Mac Canfield was the last man Lily West expected to see again, never mind aim her gun at. But here he was, the bad boy who’d broken her heart years ago-still a thief, this time high-jacking a priceless artifact–and it was all she could do to push aside the memories of how it felt to have his perfectly chiseled body next to hers.
Mac was no less shocked to see the beautiful girl-next-door all grown up, threatening to shoot him on the spot. Little did she know she was blowing his cover-and now he had to figure out how to get her out of harm’s way without succumbing to his crazy desire to take her on a hot trip down memory lane.
Unfortunately, Lily has no intention of going anywhere with Mac. Which means he has to resort to kidnapping. Unless, of course, she agrees to let him take her for the kind of ride destined to drive them both unbelievably wild…

Good morning.
Count me in. I haven’t read Jaci yet, but her books look good.
Oh!!! I’d love to win this one, I have the next book and need this one to start me off!
Well I have certainly seen this book around
Has been fun weeks.
Riding wild sounds great
It all depends, I like stand alone books just as much as a good series. And sure there are some books that leave me wondering about certain characters
And then i do lvoe if they get a book of their own
OOOOhhhhhh I would love to win this book. I havent read any of this series yet and really really want to. Thanks for the chance to win 1 of these books.
I love books that are a apart of a series, I get wrapped up in the characters and usually dont want the book to end.
Well for me both types of books have their merits. A standalone is like having a huge meal and being very satisfied at the end. A series is like having lots and lots of courses spread out over a length of time.
I do enjoy revisiting characters who I have read about in previous books – tis nice to see them get their HEA and then to have a little more. Although some authors are better at introducing secondary charcters than others in my reading experience – sometimes too much time is spent on them, taking you away from the main focus/characters of the book for too long or what *should* be the main focus/characters of the book and then I call that the dreaded sequel bait!
Ohh! I need the first one!!
I love series books, both types
1) the one where it is the same characters through all the books, a continuation (Think In Death series)
2) the ones where you meet the characters that will be in book b in book a
I love being able to see the characters grow and change.
Ohh good morning. I love love love series books. I’m alot like you in that I find characters that weren’t meant to have a story then I bug the author for their story. IE Amy Knupp for a story for one of her secondary characters.:)
I find I like best the stories that while connected via characters but don’t have to be read in order, ie they aren’t a continuing storyline appeal to me the best. Now if the books are released back to back fast, say one every month as with the cats, then I’m okay with a continuing storyline. ie they are looking for a killer and you only learn who he is in book 3. But do that to me if I won’t get but one book a year or something. It drives me nuts and I lose interest and the intensity isn’t as good.
So I do love series, but while some will work others won’t.
Hope I’ve made sense.
Can’t wait to start this series!
hugs,
WendyK
Sounds like a Wild Ride indeed!!! One I would love to read about.
I love the series books also. I like being able to follow the characters from story to story. Although I do like the lone stories as well.
I can never resist a guy on a motorcycle! Count me in.
I sometimes develop a curiosity about secondary characters in stories I read. This happens especially with historical romance stories, where books are part of a series introducing some sort of family. Sometimes I continue to read the series and see what happens to those interesting secondary characters when they get to play the main part
Many times I have found secondary characters that I would love to know more about… I enjoy series! Revisiting known characters and seeing others who deserve their story told!
I love books that are connected together. I do ok with stand alones, but sometimes I do wonder about a secondary character.
Series and connected titles are always welcome on my shelf!
Congrats on the latest release.
Sandi
I love the cover!!
I love a series. I do get interested in the lives of secondary characters and am usually thrilled to revisit and get an update.
Congrats on the new release.
Oh, and pick me! LOL
I love books in a series. I always like for secondary characters to get stories of their own. Once I am introduced to characters, I like to know what happens to them and that they will have a happy ending.
Hi, Jaci!!
I have Riding Wild, so don’t enter me to the contest, but I LOVE connected books, or books that spin off of secondary charachters. I love to stay in the same network of friends/coworkers/family, etc…I get to know them, and love little tidbits about past couples. LOVE these kinds of books!!
*waving to Jaci*
(Please don’t enter me in the drawing)
Just stopping by to wish you luck tomorrow–and to tell everyone that they do want this one
Well, the three of them, actually.
Howdy Jaci!
I love series books! I always have such a curiosity about the secondary characters and hate when their story isn’t finished! Usually, if an author can hook me on a series, then I’m a fan for life! I also LOVE the Cheasapeake Series! I think I read that series twice a year! LOL
Have a fab day!
Julz =)
I love a good series. When the world that is created fleshes out storylines for all the characters that pop in, and gives us peeks at those characters who’ve already told their stories,. This kind of well written series will keep me returning again and again, wanting to hear more.
Most of the time I like series. Falling in love with a world is important to me and so getting to know more feels like coming home.
I love series. I have since I was a little kid and read a bunch of series books for beginning readers. Like you, I like the continuity that can be found in series. Not only does it mean that favorite secondary characters from the first book get their own story, but that you get to see the initial hero and heroine as secondary characters themselves. All of the characters do become a little bit like family or friends that you always enjoy visiting with even when they aren’t the focus.
Of course, I do like stand alone books as well, but I tend to wonder what would happen in additional books for those secondary characters as well.
I would so love to try this book! Lillie told me about them and she’s never steered me wrong.
Hey Jaci I am sure in to win a book from your library. Going to buy Riding on Instinct next week when I go to Coles unless I win one soooooon!!!! Love your work!!
Thansk Shell
Hey everyone! Thanks to Mad for letting me guest today. And thanks to everyone for stopping by. I love hearing your thoughts on series vs stand alone books. I like them both, too. There’s nothing like a one-and-out satisfying read. But oh I love those series books. I tend to fall in love with secondary characters, and can’t wait for them to get their own books.
Thanks to all of you who’ve read my books, and to those who haven’t yet, I hope you give them a try. Good luck in the contest.
Sometimes I do wonder what the whole story is behind some secondary characters.
First, let me just say that RIDING ON INSTINCT is one fantastic, hot, steamy read. It is definitely a page turner and you will want to gobble it all up in one sitting. It was my first ever Jaci book and must say it will not be my last. I’m looking forward to getting the other books in the series.
As far as reading, series are my favorites. I love to read a book where a secondary character from a previous book is now one of the main characters. It makes me feel more connected to the characters and the story.
I love series books. Seeing characters get their own stories fleshes out the picture of that world in my mind. I also enjoy seeing characters who already had their story told make guest appearances. Single titles can be great too but if I love the story enough, then I want to read more.
I love series books! It’s like visiting with old friends.
I have read the other 2 books in this series and LOVED them!!! Looking forward to this one, please enter me.
Enter me please. I’ve wanted to read this series for a while but I couldn’t find the first book in my local book stores. And I hate not starting with the first of a series.
As I love reading series I like to read about secondary characters in these books as I wonder what their up to also!
I enjoy series because I hate saying goodbye to the characters after the last page. But I do like the books to be written as stand-alone reads so I can pick up a book as I discover it and choose whether I want to read the rest of the series. If I love the first book I find in a series I have been known to search out the other books and read them in the proper sequence.
Just wanted to come by and say Jaci. I love series books. I like know what has happened with my old favorites characters. Series books make me feel like I’m coming home.
Don’t enter me in the contest. I have all of Jaci’s Wild Riders books.
Nine times out of ten, I love to see a novel become part of a serious as I’m usually curious about what happens to the secondary characters. Of course there may be one or two characters within any given series I don’t find appealing, but I’ll still read the book for continuity purposes. LOL I’m kind of obsessive that way.
I love when secondary characters get their own story. In their book it is interesting to see the growth of the character.
Very cool, Jaci and Fatin! I do love a series for all the reasons mentioned! Nothing like getting a chance to revisit old friends!
Y’all are rockin’ awesome for coming by! Thank you so much! Hope you like the Wild Riders series!
And Mad is just the best. Mwah!
