She’s given up on him and moved on…
Susannah finally has a peaceful, calm life and a no-surprises man. Marriage to football superstar Ryan Sanderson was a whirlwind of passion, heat, energy, and excitement, but Susannah got sick of playing second fiddle to his team, watching women throwing themselves at him, and living in terror of the hard hits he took on the field. With their divorce just days from being final, she’s already planning a wedding with her new fiance…
He’s finally figured out what’s really important to him. If only it’s not too late…
Ryan has just ten days to convince his soon-to-be ex-wife to give him a second chance. He has just brought home his third championship and his career is at its pinnacle, but during the year of their separation, Ryan’s come to realize it doesn’t mean anything at all without Susannah…
Thanks for having me today! I’m delighted to be here along with the hero of my debut novel, “Line of Scrimmage.” As you’ll soon see, Ryan has an awful lot to say, so I’m going to let him take it from here!
Hey, y’all, my name is Ryan Sanderson, and I’m the focus of Marie’s new book “Line of Scrimmage.” Since the book came out a couple of weeks ago, I’ve gotten a lot of really cool emails, phone calls, and letters from friends and fans who can’t believe I opened up my life—and my bedroom door—for public viewing. They want to know WHY I did it—and so does my wife. Well, if I’m being honest, I did it because I felt our story needed to be told.
You see, people think they know me. They see me on T.V. on Sunday afternoons from September to February throwing the ball, executing plays, and leading my team to victory—most of the time anyway—and think they have me figured out. They see me as the kind of guy who has a girl in every city and who loves to receive women’s panties in the mail. A word about the panties, ladies: it’s kind of gross, and I never even see them. The people in my office have to deal with them, and they go right into the circular file, so don’t waste your money sending them to me. Anyhow, I digress…
What most people outside of Denver don’t know about me is that I’ve been happily married for the entire decade I’ve played pro ball. Susannah and I got hitched two weeks after I graduated from Florida. She’s been with me every minute of this crazy ride in the NFL, and she keeps me from getting too full of myself—not an easy job I might add. Things were great between us for a lot of years until a few things happened that pushed us out of bounds. Most of it was my bad, but some of it was nobody’s fault. Things happen sometimes in life—even in the most charmed of lives—that rock us to the core, and all the love in the world isn’t enough to fix it. That’s what happened to Susie and me.
But you see, the thing is, she and I belong together. From the first minute I ever saw her she was IT for me. You know what I mean? Has that ever happened to you? You just know? That’s how it was for me anyway. She took a little convincing, but eventually she came around, and we’ve been together ever since. Except for the last year or so, that is. I couldn’t believe she actually filed for divorce! I thought we were taking a little break to figure things out, and the next thing I knew I was in divorce court and then she was announcing her engagement to her high school boyfriend, a guy named Henry who I can’t stand. Just as well, because he can’t stand me either.
So if you’re me and the love of your life is about to marry a guy who’s all wrong for her, wouldn’t you want to stop that divorce you never wanted in the first place and try to get her back? The way I see it, there’s no choice. I can’t live without her. I love my wife, and I want her back. A nerdy banker dude in a bowtie is no match for Ryan Sanderson. Or is he? I’m kind of nervous, to be honest with you. But I’m going for it anyway. This is the most important game of my life, and I have every intention of winning.
Got any thoughts about how I should tell her that?

Good luck, Ryan!
Hi Marie! Hi Ryan!

Sounds like a fantastic book – I love books centered around sports – football, baseball, etc. Can’t wait to read it!!!
Hi Marie~
Ryan and Susie’s story is on my desk tempting me to blow off work.
Good luck, Ryan. I can’t wait to read all about it!
Robin
Hey, Marie!
Ryan is SUCH a sweetie! Loved the book!
OMG, Ryan, just take off your shirt and tell her you want her. Wowza!
Ok, ok, after… you know… when those barriers are down, tell her how you FEEL!
I’m sooo getting my hands on this book this weekend.

Sounds like a great book. I can’t wait to read it. I’m going to have to write it down on my must read list.
I’m definitely a #1 fangirl of Marie! I read the book and could not put it down. I took a little break after the scene I was writing for my 2nd book (Whale of a Tail), and ended up reading the rest of the time Borders was open, then went home and finished it before work the next morning. Ryan is wonderful, as flawed and human as the rest of us, but he’s not giving up. You gotta love that.
Marie – this book is a (wait for it…) TOUCHDOWN!
Awww, I love it when a guy realizes he was wrong!!!
I love the sound of this book!!!
Hi, Marie and Ryan! Ryan, a genuine apology and acknowledgment of what you did wrong and what you mean to do to fix it will go a long way. And you need to find some meaningful way to convey that you’re serious about committing to Susannah and making sure you don’t repeat your past mistake(s).
Keeping my fingers crossed for both of you!
(Please don’t enter me–Line of Scrimmage is sitting on top of my TBR!!
)
Hey everyone,
Thanks for all the great advice you’ve been offering Ryan. He told me to tell you he appreciates it and wishes he’d heard some of it BEFORE he approached the problem like an offensive lineman returning a fumble–head down, eyes on the prize and if anyone gets steamrolled in the process? Well, that’s just part of the game, right?
I appreciate all the kind words from those who have already read the book, including my fan girl Casa sisters Judi and Cheryl. Robin, get back to work! Ryan will wait for you!! Also, shout outs to my New England Chapter mate Dalton Diaz who has her first book out this week from Ellora’s Cave–Love Cuffs. Check it out–I plan to!
Thanks again for all the love!
Marie
Wow, just looking at that guy’s chest would be enough to win me over!
The plot sounds absolutely wonderful. Reading this article makes me want to read this book right away!
Great post, Marie!
Linda
Hi Marie, What a fresh plot line! I’m adding Line Of Scrimmage to my TBB list.
Ryan, try some flowers and being a tad more subtle!
LOL Cheryl C. I agree that chest makes QUITE a statement, especially that little trickle of sweat rolling down the middle. Sigh… If I could’ve sold dates with him, I could’ve nicely supplemented by book income–HA!
Thanks for coming by Casa Sister Linda!
Hi Susan,
Sadly, Ryan does not know the meaning of the word “subtle.” Just soooo not his style. I’ve tried talking to him about it, but he’s rather bullheaded. You’ll see that when you read his story. Thanks for the interest in Line of Scrimmage!!
Hi Marie,
I agree that Ryan should apologize and then do everything in his power to get Susannah. I can’t imagine being married a sports star and worrying about all the women lusting after him.
Hi Marie and Ryan
I started this book last night and WOW I am loving it although I am only just into it it has grabbed me from the first page I am loving the alpha male in you Ryan and I am loving Susie’s confusion on her feelings at the moment.
This is going to be one fantastic story if all goes well I will probably finish it tonight.
Thanks Marie for a wonderful story.
Have Fun
Helen
I just ordered Line of Scrimmage from Amazon. Cannot wait til it arrives!
Hi Marie!!!!!
I’m glad to see your having fun all over the place and for you Ladies that have not read Line of Scrimage yet you are really missing out. Dee-licious! Hot and steamy like a football locker room. YUMM!

Terra
Hi Cyclops (love that name BTW),
I can’t imagine what it would be like to be married to someone like Ryan. However, he is not a typical superstar. I’ll let you read the book to find out what I mean!
Hi Helen,
Hope you enjoy the rest of the book. Such a thrill to hear someone say they are reading the book…
…or ordering the book and are excited to receive it, Estella. Thank you so much for your interest in LOS! Enjoy it!
Terra!
Thanks for that ringing endorsement on top of all your other kind words about LOS! I love that last part “Hot and steamy like a football locker room.” LOL! LOVE IT!
Sounds like a great book. Nice cover too!
Marie & Ryan,
Sorry so late to the party.
I dunno, candlenight, a good wine and about a half hour massage does it for me. Best of luck to you both!
Malena
This sounds like a great book. I love second chance love stories and a football player, Yum.
Good luck with the sale.
Ryan, good luck wooing your soon to be ex wife back.
hot cover, sounds greatm my favs sports and hot men
I’ve been hearing alot about this and I’m a huge football fan!
I also love books that have sports in them. I love hockey, football and baseball. Just something about it. hehehe
The best advice I can give Ryan is just to admit you were wrong and that you are sorry. Even if you don’t know what you did. If she is happy, everyone is happy.
Adding this to my TBE pile that wont stop growing. lol
Katie
Well, I have to say that at first I had no sympathy for you. None! I wondered why you waited so long, but after realizing what a hot-head Suzanne was, I guessed a long time to cool off was needed. I’m not sure I would have ever given in. I tend to be uber-stubborn when I think I’m right. LOL.
Ash
Hey Stacy, Malena (my Sourcebooks Sister), Ann, kh and Katie, thanks for stopping by to offer your advice to Ryan. He needs it! I hope you enjoy his attempts to win back his wife!
Marie
Ash,
LOL–I think you are the firs to say Susannah is a hot head!! Thanks for the chuckle!
Marie
OMG! Marie, I couldn’t resist putting aside 2 other books when that fab cover beckoned, and then I couldn’t put it down. Susannah tugged at my heart, and Ryan… well, I was already in lust, and now he’s going on my keeper shelf as one of my all-time fave heroes. Forget that I’m a fellow writer – I don’t even write in your genre. This is a total fan letter!
Dalton
I was the winner of this book!! It was an excellent read – I love Ryan!! What an awesome book – I can’t recommend it enough.
Thanks for the wonderful gift – it is in my reread pile!
