Thanks so much for having me!

Gosh, what seems like forever ago but was really only 2005, I’d just started writing with Ellora’s Cave and they put out a call for an anthology. I can’t even remember the title but the theme was men with dangerous jobs.

So I noodled around and came up with an idea for a werewolf cop of sorts, an Enforcer. I wrote the proposal and subbed it but they didn’t choose it. My editor wrote me and said she really loved the idea and she thought I should write it as a full length novel.

So it sat a while, because I had a dozen other things to do and by the time I’d gotten back to it, Lex had softened a bit and the original heroine had changed into Nina Reyes and some key elements had shifted. Pretty much, without my editor’s urging, I’m not sure I would have written it at all!

But I did and Cascadia Wolves: Enforcer was my first book in the Cascadia Wolves series. In the beginning, I’d really only considered it to be a standalone book but when I started Tri Mates, the story got really big and Warren Pellini was back so at that point I sketched out the idea for the werewolf mafia story arc to be told over a few more books.

I think for me, this series taught me a lot about letting the story have its way with you. Sometimes you have to rein yourself in as an author, keep your cast down to a manageable number, keep the story within the lines or it’s just too big and confusing. But other times, if you let yourself go a bit, you find things you hadn’t imagined at first.

So I just released Standoff, which is the last book in the werewolf mafia story arc and Cade Warden’s HEA. I saved him for last for a few reasons, firstly the story arc needed to end with him risking his life to save his people and I felt like it would be more meaningful if he did it with his mate at his side. Also, he’s the patriarch of the series so there was an important element of saving the best for last.

Standoff was a big challenge for me because Grace is a more subdued heroine than I normally write. She’s strong, but she’s not big on the page like Nina and Tracy. I also knew Nina would have a problem with any woman Cade brought home and that she was a Pellini was another complicating factor. I needed to write that all carefully because Nina is a character people like but she’s not likeable when she goes off on Grace. And because Nina is so well liked, I had to make sure people didn’t start off hating her because she challenged Nina.

In truth it turned out to be a lot of fun to write their scenes together and although it took a while, Grace revealed herself to me on the page and once I really understood her, she was a lot easier to write.

Even though Standoff was the hardest book to write of the four, it was a truly satisfying experience. I like Grace a lot. I like Cade and I think through Grace, I was able to show readers another side of our cookie baking, control freak alpha.

I hope you all enjoy them too!

This isn’t the last of the Cascadia Wolves or of their universe. I’m currently working on Unexpected, Megan’s story and next year I’ll be working on Jack’s book too.

Happy St Patrick’s Day everyone!

*waving at Lauren* Good to see you here!

I like the idea of revisiting a particular universe from a different angle, so I’ll be looking forward to the next Cascadia Wolves installment.

~~~sigh of relief~~when you said that was the last of the Cascadia stories, I was like NO!!!! I gotta have me some Jack, and some Dave…and poor Megan, she’s gotta get her mate…lol. Lauren!! Hi!! I gotta tell you, I just started this series about 2 weeks ago, and finished Cade’s story this weekend. It was wonderul!! I loved the whole series, and was thrilled with the way you handled Cade and Grace. He needed someone special and different, and she fit the bill. I’m eyeballing the Witch series….think I’ll be reading that next weekend. Oh, oh…meant to tell you. I didn’t know if I’d like Tri Mates. Fatin told me how great it was…and I was like, oh, grrr…I dunno, two men? Who really love her??? And it was truly great. I loved the story, I loved Nick, Gabe and Tracy, and surprised myself by wanting to see more of the dynamics between them.
Fatin is truly your cheerleader, he/he!!
She is SO bad, bad for my book buying habits!!
***in a perky cheerleading outfit*** Rah Rah Rah! Sis Boom Bah! ;)
How was that, Melissa? lol
And would I ever steer you wrong when it comes to books? *G*
Nope, Nope…You are the GRAND PUBA, Fatin!!
LOL, you SO are. You make me miss alot of sleep, though, lol. But I love you anyway!!
Wonderful series, I so love the wolves and I hope you will write many, many more books about them! Now I’ll read some of your other books while I wait…
Joy - thank you so much!
Tina - LOL! Well it’s easier in fiction than in real life I think.
Azteclady - Happy St. Paddy’s day to you too!
Melissa - thanks! I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed the series and yes, Fatin is so good to me!
Eva - oh thank you, I do too!
Fatin - thank you for having me and for all the wonderful book love you send my way.
Hi Lauren,
Happy St. Patrick’s Day, everyone! Thanks for sharing about the Cascadia Wolves series. I haven’t read them yet- but they’re next on my list. :) I’ve been reading your series on the Chase brothers and I’m really enjoying it.
Isn’t it crazy how quickly time flies?!
I have read all of your contemporary books and love them, I never really took at look at this series b/c I am not a big paranormal fan, but I do think I wil check these out.
Happy st patty’s day Lauren. And I for one would like to give your editor a big hug. I’m so glad she requested this book. I love this series. And have the last one one my ebookwise hopefully to start on sometime this week
Hi Lauren,
Good to see you here. I have been thinking this book sounds great and that I have to try your Cascadia Wolves series soon. I love your Witches Knot series so I know I love your writing style so it is time to expand my Lauren Dane collection even more.
I just finished Standoff, and loved this series, and the Chase boys, yummy, and you’ve gotta try her menage stories too.
Happy St Patrick’s Day!
An looking forward to reading the lasted wolf book!
I forgot this morning…
Mad/Fatin, please don’t include me in the drawing–I just won one of Lauren’s books a few days ago.
Love the books, and it brightens my dreary day to see that there will be even more books in the series. :)
I love your stories and cant wait for Megan and Jack stories to come out!!!! and it soooo made my day to hear Cade’s story wasnt the last of the Wardens :D I was at work today and was reading one of your books and my co worker asked me if I liked you as an author….i turned around and gave her that book and told her that you write so well, that I literally slip into the story and hate when your stories end because i fell so fast and hard into your stories LOLOL
I’ve said this in many a blog, but I was madly in love with all these characters. I read them out of order, I started with Tri Mates, then went to Wolf Unbound, then read Enforcer and Reluctant. Then Standoff recently. It didn’t matter that I read them out of order, I still loved them. And I’ll go back and re-read them in a month or so - in order.
I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to know that you’ll continue with these characters.
I love all your other books too… The Cherchez pack was one I didn’t think I’d like because of the Cascadia Wolves, but your storytelling hooked me. I love the Witches Knot series too. I’m going to start on the Chase Brothers next!
Thanks!
Valerie :)
Thanks for blogging today, Lauren! I haven’t yet had the chance to read your books, but love the info and am looking forward to the pleasure :) I do love related stories, and it sounds like the Cascadia Wolves have a tremendously interesting universe to enjoy! Hope you’re having a happy St. Patrick’s!
Lauren,
I have been reading the Cascadia wolves from the release of Enforcer. Lex and Nina will forever be on the keeper shelf of books for me. Cade right away had my interest and I believe I e mailed you about when his story would finally be told. I knew you would take care of Cade and find him a mate that all readers like myself would find joy in the pairing of the two. It is so rare that you find a group of characters and books that build and end without disappointment along the way. I will miss my Cascadia wolves but I know that in that readers unniverse that they
are all well with Cade and Grace looking after them all.
Thanks for a magnifient ending to a spellbinding series.
Mary D
Ooh, would love to be in the running to win, please.
Have a lovely day! :-)
I haven’t read any of Lauren’s books. Standoff sounds like a great read.
Hope everyone have a great St. Patrick’s Day!
So, Lauren…there are only the two books that are part of the Cherchez pack?? I am buying them now, but want to make sure I get them all. LOL, I can’t stand it if I miss some.
Limecello - It’s already mid march! Talk about how fast time flies, jeebus - my middle kiddo got his first loose tooth yesterday. I hope you enjoy my chases!
Christina - oh thank you! I hope you enjoy them.
Pam - LOL, I’ll pass that along to her. I’m thankful for her as well.
Cherie - thanks so much for saying so!
Lee - you’re making me blush! Thank you.
Jessi - that comment brightened *my* day! thank you
April - that’s a seriously wonderful compliment. thank you
Valerie - aw, man, thank you!
Fedora - thank you, I hope your St. Paddy’s Day was a good one too!
Mary - it’s comments like this that make it so much fun to write series. Thank you
Tez - thanks, I hope your day was a good one too!
Amelia - thank you! Have a great day.
Melissa - LOL - right now it’s just Ascension and Fire and Rain. Eventually I want to follow up with Skye and Phillip’s stories but I really can’t get to them until the late fall at this point.
Hi Lauren!!! I’ve been exciting hearing about all your news and happy for you (and me too, smile). I’m thrilled there will be more with this series! Its hard to let go, they are ever so real reading them! I do have some catching up to do seeing your books at Samhain!
With all your working on, do you focus on just one book at a time or do you have more than one going? I wondered what you’d do if stuck within one book and if you had others started to work there til the muse/answers came to go back to your story.
Hi there, Caffey! Thank you so much. To answer your question, I rarely get the time to just focus on one project. Usually I’m working on a book and at some point in the process of editing at least one, and usually two more. RIght now I’m writing Unexpected (the next in the Cascadia world) and editing/revising Undercover (my Berkley release for December) and finishing the polishing of Sensual Magic that’s due to Spice on April 1.
I just have gotten used to writerly multi tasking!
Wow, Lauren! When do you get the chance to breathe? Wait, what am I saying…I might ruin your mojo and then where will I get my next Dane fix? So keep it up! LOL
