Denise Lynn Guest Blogging

Hi there. A few or more weeks ago Fatin asked me if I wanted to do a guest blogspot and I said yes, sure, love to. Then, par for the course, promptly let it slip my mind. So here I am squinting at a blank page, playing a round of Spider Solitaire, staring at the pureness of empty white space, playing multiple games of Cubis…and so it goes.

What on earth do I have to blog about? Nothing that I can think of off hand, at least nothing that would interest anyone but me. Having just finished another go round of revisions I’m seriously brain dead. And trying to regroup before diving into the project. Which is probably why I can’t win a round of Spider Solitaire. But then it hit me…what do I do best? Procrastinate. Yeah, that’s it. I’ve taken the simple concept of putting it (“it” being just about anything) off until the last minute far beyond the normal scope and molded it into an art form.

Of course that theory was shot when I found this testing website where you can score your level of procrastination:

http://psychologytoday.psychtests.com/tests/procrastination_access.html

Have to admit that I was pretty bummed to only score a 40 out of 100. “Your score on this test was in the mid-range. This means that, while your procrastination is holding you back, you probably eventually are able to reach many of your goals. You should still work on reducing your procrastination, however, as you are probably holding yourself back at least slightly. With a little effort, you can bring your procrastination more under control.” I beg your pardon? Mid-range? Average? How am I going to make the Olympic team with an average score?

Enough of that testing stuff…what’s new on the tube? My sister is raving about this show called Moonlight. To which I ask enthusiastically, “Did they bring Maddie and David back?” Her answer doesn’t bear repeating. Let’s just say it had something to do with getting old…wench. So, since she recorded this Moonlight thing, I’ll go over there. Oh my. My, oh, my. Yeah, I can see the appeal here. LOL.  My experience with vampires runs along the lines of Barnabas Collins from Dark Shadows…have I mentioned that I’m getting old here…and yes, I must raise a guilty hand on Forever Knight. My excuse is rock solid there – he was a knight and since for the most part I write medieval romance it all fits. But this Mick dude, he’ll work in some strange sort of way.  Then my sister flips the recorder over to Blood Ties. Ok, another vampire show? There’s something she’s so not sharing. The guy here, while sort of “cute” looks way too young. So young that it nearly feels creepy to call him cute.  I’m more into like Michael from le femme Nikita, or Seagal as Mason Storm in Hard To Kill (with the volume on mute, please).

Obviously, I need to cross TV off the list, unless of course it’s CSI or any Law and Order show. No prob, there are tons of other things I could do to put off cleaning my office, finding my desk, drafting an outline and getting geared up for the next book. Tons. There are. Honest. Just bunches of¼things¼I could¼well, blast it all¼like what? Bake some cookies? Just made a cake, so no, that’s out. Sew something? I have a slipcover for a loveseat to finish, that’s enough thanks. Clean? Not in this lifetime. Do wash? Why, it’s Sunday evening, do you need something clean right now?

Maybe I don’t have this procrastination thing down quite as pat as I first thought. Give me a hand here. What do you do to kill time? Seriously, otherwise I’m going to have to get cracking on the next book or lose what little is left of my mind.

And so I don’t get cyber thwapped, I’ll give you some info on my November release from  Harlequin Historical -  “Bedded By Her Lord”.  This is book 2 in my “Commanded” series (for lack of a better tie in). Guy of Hartford has been held captive for seven years and is finally returning home to his keep, his men and his beloved wife Elizabeth. But his men don’t recognize him. And his beloved wife is giving birth. His homecoming can’t possibly get any worse¼can it? Well of course it can¼and does. Rest assured the story does have a happy ending, but everyone will pay dearly to get there.

Take care,

Denise Lynn

What do I do to kill time?

*thinking*

Well, I should be cleaning, of course, but instead I’m blog hopping. :D

LOL

Seriously, I start at one blog and it goes from there…next thing I know, I’m behind on whatever I needed to get done for the day. *sigh*

Although…I love to play spider solitaire and that, for me, is also a very good way to kill time. ;o)

I’m with Cindy. I should be cleaning but I’m either blog hopping or reading.

Oh, and Denise, my favorite shows are CSI and all the L&O (esp. SVU), too! ;)

What free time?!! I have three kids under the age of ten so its all about them! But after bedtime at 8:30 I can’t decide WHAT I want to do. Sometimes I play with the PSP, sometimes I read, and on Tuesday and Thursday nights, I watch House, Gray’s Anatomy, and ER….

I like to watch tv. I love the History Channel and the Discovery Channel. There’s so much info thrown at you that you feel you’re learning something useful. It makes you feel less guilty about watching tv if you think it’s educational. I also like to watch X-Files reruns.

The two main things I do to kill time are read and blog hop to find out whats new in the book world!

Hmmm…..I either read or watch TV to kill time…and if both of those fail, I….get ready for it….clean the house…LOL But that last one only happens when I can’t find something to read or watch on TV. ROFL

I’m always reading! I’d love to spend more time blog hopping but my children don’t understand that someone else would like to use the computer.

My free time I’m usually blog hopping or reading. But I should be cleaning house, maybe later. lol

I agree with everyone else - blog hopping, reading, TV and playing spider solitaire are definitely my favorite past times.

Hey Denise!! Glad to know there’s another Spider Solitaire player out there. I just love that game! But when I try the harder version (with two suits) I get a little bit frustrated.

Anyway, my free time is limited (working, married, two kids, church, etc., etc., etc.,). But when I do have some free time, it is usually spent on the internet, reading a book, or scrapbooking.

Mine is reading & blog hopping also. I love playing mahjong titans. I also like watching the A & E channel.

I read or look up stuff on the internet. Procrastination is a wonderful thing. It allows us to feel guilty our whole life.

Stacy S — I’m hooked on mahjong titans too!!! Too much fun!

A big !Huzzah! to all those spider solitaire players. LOL. The trick to playing 2 suits is to keep hitting F2 until you can play at least 5 of the top cards. LOLOL — that’s not cheating, it’s ensuring the conditions are right for the play.

I hear you all on blog hopping…it has the ability to totally suck me in for an entire afternoon. I really try to avoid it if at all possible, atleast until the work is done.

Andrea — oh, yeah, SVU is my fave L&O. I caught it midseaon the first time around and kept looking at the tube saying “That’s Ice-T. NO, can’t be. Yeah, it is. Naw….” DUH talk about feeling like an idiot.

LOLOL — ok, you got me there, Sharmi, 3 kids under the age of 10 doesn’t leave much (ANY) spare time. Oh, House, how could I forget House? I love him. I aspire to hone my sarcasm to his level.

Yup, aren’t the History channel and Discovery grand? “But it’s educational! I’m learning something….” For me add the NASA channel to that. I love it that we have an astronaunt named Scorch…it makes me giggle. During the last mission one of the guys asked Mission Control what “this” button does and with a totally deadpanned voice, the Mission Director told them to push it and see. I spewed coffee. Wow, education and humor on the same channel.

Mad, sweetie, if you don’t have anything to read you aren’t spending enough money. JUST KIDDING.

Ladies, thanks tons for dropping by! And Mad, love, thanks again for inviting me!

Take care all and keep blog hopping, reading, watching tv, playing games and fighting the kids for the computer…let’s give it our best shot to make Procrastination an olympic sport–and if not, well, heck, it sure beats cleaning house.

Denise Lynn

I think I’m also a procrastinator like you. :)

My free time are watching tv, working out, reading yahoo groups in my digest emails and blogs (just started and it’s addictive) :)

I really like Harlequin Historicals… and I am sure that I am going to check yours when it comes in the bookstores!!

PROCRASTINATING… love it though I am obliged to do less of it… too much work that can’t be put off!!

I kill time by reading.

Hmmm, I don’t know about that working out thing, Amelia, granted I really do need to give an honest go, but…is there a way they can take out the “work” part of the word? LOL — wishful thinking, I know.

I’m sorry, Lily. I do understand the work that can’t be set aside. Although I do hope you get some time to totally blow off each week.

Yup, reading is a wonderful way to procrastinate. (sigh) I wish I had more time to devote to reading romances. Here lately it’s all been non-fiction. But the toppling tbr boxes are working their siren’s call.

Thanks, Nathalie. I’m glad to hear you like Harlequin Historicals and if you do happen to pick up “Bedded” I hope you enjoy the story.

Take care,

Denise Lynn

Hi Lynn,

I read a few days ago the synopsis of your book on eharlequin and I was intrigued… I really didn’t know that his wife was giving birth!! That is extreme… I didn’t understand when it said she could have betrayed him… I really have to read your book know :) and get the answers!

LOL, Maggie, I don’t suppose you’d buy that it was a real real long pregnancy?

I just couldn’t help myself. I mean what would be the worst possible thing for a guy whose been a virtual prisoner for seven years than to come home to a total…mess.

Take care,

Denise Lynn

I’ve never read your books so I checked out your website and you have some great book. I’m definately interested and I’m going to have to start adding you to my pile.

Reading and the internet.

I never have enough time to kill time. I like to read, but I think that is reward. I’m so far behind that I still have a box of Christmas decorations sitting in my living room that I haven’t put away from last year.

ohmygawd…..LOLOL ChristyH!!!!!! One year, when I was still working outside of the home I kept putting off getting a tree. On Christmas eve I went and bought one of those little table top ones that was already decorated and slapped it on the fireplace. The dh won’t let me throw it away…it’s become his “dig” tree whenever he wants to get at me.

Heck, look at it this way…you won’t have to dig the box out next month!!!!! So, actually, you’re a step ahead, not behind.

Smoochies to all.
Denise Lynn
