Hi there. A few or more weeks ago Fatin asked me if I wanted to do a guest blogspot and I said yes, sure, love to. Then, par for the course, promptly let it slip my mind. So here I am squinting at a blank page, playing a round of Spider Solitaire, staring at the pureness of empty white space, playing multiple games of Cubis…and so it goes.
What on earth do I have to blog about? Nothing that I can think of off hand, at least nothing that would interest anyone but me. Having just finished another go round of revisions I’m seriously brain dead. And trying to regroup before diving into the project. Which is probably why I can’t win a round of Spider Solitaire. But then it hit me…what do I do best? Procrastinate. Yeah, that’s it. I’ve taken the simple concept of putting it (“it” being just about anything) off until the last minute far beyond the normal scope and molded it into an art form.
Of course that theory was shot when I found this testing website where you can score your level of procrastination:
http://psychologytoday.psychtests.com/tests/procrastination_access.html
Have to admit that I was pretty bummed to only score a 40 out of 100. “Your score on this test was in the mid-range. This means that, while your procrastination is holding you back, you probably eventually are able to reach many of your goals. You should still work on reducing your procrastination, however, as you are probably holding yourself back at least slightly. With a little effort, you can bring your procrastination more under control.” I beg your pardon? Mid-range? Average? How am I going to make the Olympic team with an average score?
Enough of that testing stuff…what’s new on the tube? My sister is raving about this show called Moonlight. To which I ask enthusiastically, “Did they bring Maddie and David back?” Her answer doesn’t bear repeating. Let’s just say it had something to do with getting old…wench. So, since she recorded this Moonlight thing, I’ll go over there. Oh my. My, oh, my. Yeah, I can see the appeal here. LOL. My experience with vampires runs along the lines of Barnabas Collins from Dark Shadows…have I mentioned that I’m getting old here…and yes, I must raise a guilty hand on Forever Knight. My excuse is rock solid there – he was a knight and since for the most part I write medieval romance it all fits. But this Mick dude, he’ll work in some strange sort of way. Then my sister flips the recorder over to Blood Ties. Ok, another vampire show? There’s something she’s so not sharing. The guy here, while sort of “cute” looks way too young. So young that it nearly feels creepy to call him cute. I’m more into like Michael from le femme Nikita, or Seagal as Mason Storm in Hard To Kill (with the volume on mute, please).
Obviously, I need to cross TV off the list, unless of course it’s CSI or any Law and Order show. No prob, there are tons of other things I could do to put off cleaning my office, finding my desk, drafting an outline and getting geared up for the next book. Tons. There are. Honest. Just bunches of¼things¼I could¼well, blast it all¼like what? Bake some cookies? Just made a cake, so no, that’s out. Sew something? I have a slipcover for a loveseat to finish, that’s enough thanks. Clean? Not in this lifetime. Do wash? Why, it’s Sunday evening, do you need something clean right now?
Maybe I don’t have this procrastination thing down quite as pat as I first thought. Give me a hand here. What do you do to kill time? Seriously, otherwise I’m going to have to get cracking on the next book or lose what little is left of my mind.
And so I don’t get cyber thwapped, I’ll give you some info on my November release from Harlequin Historical - “Bedded By Her Lord”. This is book 2 in my “Commanded” series (for lack of a better tie in). Guy of Hartford has been held captive for seven years and is finally returning home to his keep, his men and his beloved wife Elizabeth. But his men don’t recognize him. And his beloved wife is giving birth. His homecoming can’t possibly get any worse¼can it? Well of course it can¼and does. Rest assured the story does have a happy ending, but everyone will pay dearly to get there.
Take care,
Denise Lynn
